D8 Front fogs retrofit

Post by Roylewaa »

Ive just realised a while ago when I had my D9 I purchased a pair of front fogs for a D8 in error
Anyway I now have a D8 and fancy having a go at fitting them

Is there a good how to guide anywhere on the Forum?
Ive spend half an hour or so looking around but can't find much info other that mentions of wiring being there, switch location and relays etc
Cheers for any info

you will need a new indicator / light switch stalk as the fogs are on that .. or a switch from maplin and retro fit it to the dash board ..

a relay and wire. also a fuse sumwere..

if you want i can try locate the relay and fuse in my haynes ...

what engine is it ... altho they should be the same .

i was gonna fit my own but i asked myself do i really need front fogs because if the rozzers catch you using at night you can get a fine/points on your license ..
is it really worth it ?

Yeah mate cheers if you can try and locate what relay and fuse it is

I would'nt say it was absolute necessity to fit them, Ive just got them sitting in the shed and wondered if it was a pain to fit them

OOkkeey. The rellay is under the steering wheel. It is black and looks like this: (BITRON number 232303 before the facelift)

Any of the 2 will do. A new stalk from a car with fogs is needed too. Remove the old ome and fit the new one. All the cabling is already there. Remove the bumper and you'll see the cables. Two 10A fuses must be added in the fusebox in the engine bay (see car's handbook for exact positions).

Thanks very much for that, The switch is just the rears on the stalk on mine
Does the bumper have to come off altogether? Or would it just be easier to remove it rather than faff on?

I'l have to get hold of a handbook for fuse locations under the bonnet

I will defo be having ago once ive got the car running properly, Its at the garage at the mo and they think the MAP is goosed

cheers again :)

The rellay is only one, number 81 on the schematic.Don't really remember which one of the two was it but you should have one already installed. (it's for ignition.... something :cheesy: ).84 and 85 are the foglights.

IMPORTANT !!!

For cars before '98 and all around '96 models the cabling doesn't go to the stalk, but under the steering wheel.
Image

If you have a blank there and the black plastic, remove the blank button and see if you have the cables on the back of the button. They should be clipped on the back of the blank button or luying arround if someone unclipped them. In that case you don't have to look for a new stalk, just find the button that's missing and install it. All the cabling should be factory laid already.
If you have this lid under the steereing wheel:
Image

Check for a free connector on the back (exactly where the button is on the picture with the black lid thingy). It may be possible that your cables go under the steering wheel too. In my case there were no cables there.

Image

In both cases the rellay and it's position are identical.

Managed to pillage a T plate D8 in the local breakers yard today

Is this definately a front fog stalk? I also got the black relay, but there was only 1? Is that right and would they still work or do I need 2?

Apologies for the blurred focus, my digi camera is hopeless at close up shots
Reason I ask is I could see the foglight connectors taped up as the bumper was removed so I don't actually know if the car had them fitted??

That's the right rellay (yes, you need one!). And the right stalk. Dig in :)

OK....

Anmother IMPORTANT!!!! thing...

If your stalk is like this:

Image

Then your cables go to the stalk and you need this repacement stalk in order to retrofit your foglights:
Image

If you have this indicator stalk factory fitted:
Image
Then you need to find and install this key so the foglights work correctly and you don't need to change anything around the original stalk:
