Re: Engine Hiss

I've just chatted to a mate who is an ex-mechanic who thinks it may be the flange between the manifold and the turbo leaking, and as the engine warms up it seals the hole. Would this make sense?

Cheers,
Ian

Engine Hiss

Hi all, Not posted here for a while, mainly because my car has been running sweet! I've got a 2.1Td D8, P Reg with 180K miles on the clock. Yesterday when I left work, I noticed a hiss coming from what appeared to be the dash, at first I thought it was radio static but then noticed the radio was off...

Immobiliser memory

I'm going to disconnect the battery on my 406 tonight to (hopefully) sort a few strange electrical problems I've been having, hoping an ECU reset will help it. If I disconnect the battery will it reset the immobiliser code or does it have a memory of some kind?
Thanks

I think I've found the problem, it would appear to be the handbrake. I took the wheel off, the calipers are slightly rubbing but not badly and the bearings seem to be fine. It's actually the handbrake shoes rubbing. I'm going to get it inot a garage soon to be looked at as I had the whole handbrake ...

Squealing from the back wheel

I'm wondering what would cause a squealing to develop on my rear drivers side wheel, the squeel starts at about 25-30mph and is always present in reverse and sometimes goes away when breaking but not always. I'm thinking it will be either the brakes rubbing (that brake has squeeled for a while befor...

Vegetable Oil

Now the weather is warmer I have been thinking of running my 2.1TD D8 on a weak mix of Diesel and Vegetable Oil (90%-10%). Is this a good idea without getting the engine properly converted? Is it likely to wreck my fuel pump etc...?

Sorted now, the camber was out by 2 degrees on the rear wheels!!
Got a nice set of 2 Dunlop SP 4alls and the camber sorted all for £149, not a bad price at all really considering the tyres are around £54 each without fitting 8)

Rear Wheel Camber Adjustment

Hi, Just had to get 2 new tyres on my D8 estate, the camber is off and had completely worn away the inside shoulder of my 2 rear tyres. The garage I was at couldn't see anything wrong with the suspension and said I need to take it to a specialist alignment centre. I'm throwing this out to you guys' ...

Fixed :cheesy: I took a syringe full of silicon sealant from my lab (not the kind for bathrooms, stuff we use for sealing water cooled laser rods) and injected it into the corners of my windscreen where the rubber looks a bit rough and into my aerial mount. Seems to have worked a treat, no water is ...

If its the aerial leaking is it likely to come through the bolts holding the sun visor in?
I'll have a quick look at the aerial tomorrow before I head out to work.
Cheers

Leaky windscreen seal

Hi, New to the forums! :cheesy: I've got a 406 2.1TD estate with 173K miles on the clock. On the way to work this morning, I got dripped on by water coming from the bolt in the sun visor on the drivers side of the car, a quick look at the outside and it looks like the rubber seal at the top of my wi...
