Re: D8 2.1TD Saloon - runs ok, spares or repair.

Chesterfield ( M1 J29 / 30 )

Forgot to mention the PCB on the back of the speedo has a dry joint meaning the dials don't work ( but the warning lights do, it's a common problem and an easy fix with a soldering iron ).

D8 2.1TD Saloon - runs ok, spares or repair.

D8 Saloon, White No MOT, SORNED Recently refilled aircon - blows nice and cold but has not been used for 3 months. 2.1TD engine - nice and strong, pulls like a train with no obvious issues. Electric front windows. Steering rack leaks heavily - have a replacement rack which is marked up as a 2.1 but ...

D8 Leathers for sale

D8 leathers for sale, believe I also have the door cards, will check in a moment. The seats were bought for my car ( see other thread ) but never completed due to the front wiring not being there, and not having the time to improvise. There are one or two scuff marks on the seats, nothing major. 100...

Right then, quick update. It's not the motor causing the fuse to blow, it's the accelerator pedal ( or use of it ! ) When I start the car up, and let it idle, the aircon will helpfully start without blowing the fuse. If I put the fan on full, it doesn't quite get there, because... When I blip the ac...

Aircon fuse / recirc fan

First of all, it's a D8 LX with basic aircon. The aircon worked ok until recently, when it started intermittently blowing fuse 21. I've had the problem with the noisy recirc motor, was wondering if this being knackered ( which it is ) could be blowing fuse 21- which is linked because when it blows, ...

The trick with the pump nozzle is to turn it through 180 degrees - ie. hold it so that the pipe is going upwards. 100% success rate with this, and it still clicks-off. Incidentally, I used the pay@pump the other day, and the pump automatically cuts out at approx £60 - I say approx because it still h...

Hi ! I'm in the same situation with my 2.1TD - except mine has the variable assistance. According to the books, the time is approx 2 hours for the job, you need to take the track-rod ends off, drain what fluid there is left, and unbolt everything - making a note of the alignment of the pinion etc.. ...

The 2.1 is pretty good - mid range it's awesome ! This morning, I kept up with a boxter in 1st, he left me a little in 2nd, I nearly rear-ended him in 3rd, and passed him at some traffic lights. I dare say had he been trying, he could have out-run me ( but I wasn't trying too hard anyway  ), bu...

I actually quite liked the merc, it was a really refined and flexible engine, bags of low down torque ( 133lb @ 1600 ) - well, good for the size of the car. Regularly got late 50's - 60's out of it - despite thrashing it. Did 90k in three years, ate a gearbox and had a rear radius arm bolt fail on t...

Just a quick thought, would the driveshaft intermediate bearing cause this noise ?

Also, is it perhaps remotely possible that it's belt related ( cam or aux ) - ie a bearing ?

Thing is, I've had cars in the past that have been "let go", and regretted letting them go, I let go of a fabulous 405 GTX estate, trouble is, it was a petrol, and an auto, but it had aircon and cruise and was practically mint. Bought it for a song, flogged it for more just because I didn't like the...

How rude of me !

Just realised that I haven't said hello to everyone ( hello ! ) and introduced me and the scrapheap. I've got a bit of a french car background, interrupted by an austin metro ( first car ) a rover 420sdi, and an A-Class CDI. Current scrapheap ( it is ! ), is a 406 d8 1997(p) 2.1DT LX which I got off...

I'm impressed you're getting 45mpg on your commute - that's eating into my range ( 2.1td ).

What does your commute consist of, and how would you describe your driving style ?
