Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

I thought about that too, but it's not likely to be conclusive (unless anyone knows a continuity test works)? I guess a near-certain solution would be a bsi/ecu/key AND the receiver assembly from a donor vehicle. Another option would be just the receiver assembly as it simply 'reads' the RFID chip ...

Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

I do remember someone taping the transponder chip to the outside of the ring, but it was probably to allow a key blade with no electronics to be used. Think I also recall someone have a receiver ring that had moved somehow and wouldn't 'see' the key, so probably worth removing the cowling and seein...

Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

My mom is still asking me to get second, third and fourth opinions! Why she is hell bent on keeping this money pit is beyond me! Anyway, I've just been reading that in the situation I am in, taking the bsi, ecu and key fob from a donor vehicle and putting them on this car could solve the problem. Is...

Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

but as their value approaches that of scrap metal it makes sense. Yeah I get that, the problem is this car has already had too much money spent on it and a trip to the dealers isn't going to be cheap. 407s can be picked up quite cheap now so it's just not worth throwing more money at this one. I ju...

Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

Ok thanks for the help guys. After the rac being unable to find a way to get it started I'm not sure I would be able to fix it. I'm in the middle of a house move at the moment and just don't have the time. I hoped for a quick fix but that's clearly not going to be the case. It's a shame really becau...

Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

Nothing wrong with being a little thrifty.... 8) Whereabouts are you based? I'm not thrifty, I'm tight as a ducks arse according to my missus  I'm based in Staffordshire. It's an orange not a tangerine, my mistake. :P :P I don't live in the UK 8) Looks like up until March 2002 they were on a 5...

Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

It's an 02 not 52, my mistake. The rac guy checked several things. His plug in reader thing only came up with the key not recognised. He tried various things and put a variety of testers on the car but couldn't come up with anything. He did leave me a card for an auto locksmith but rather than pay f...

Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

Ok my mom realised she was still a member of the rac. We called them out and they can't figure it out. He said the key isn't recognised but as I have 2 keys it's unlikely to be the key itself. I'm at a loss now. Is there anything else worth trying or do I have a very large paperweight?? I'm guessing...

Re: Engine immobilizer fault!!

simple Hmm, wait until you see it, how much of a job it'll be depends how bad it is. If it is that of course. :? The carpet is a total nightmare to remove but nothing feels damp at all. Are there any fuses that are linked to this? I have no idea where anything is on this car! Everything else in the...

Thanks, I'll check that out. Hopefully it's as simple as that then. Just hope it's easily accessible.

Engine immobilizer fault!!

Need help quite urgently guys, I'm in the middle of a house move and it's drawn to a halt because I can't get to the new house. Car is Peugeot 406 hdi estate 52 plate. Yesterday, stopped outside my current home, stayed 5 minutes, got back in the car and it was dead. No dash lights, nothing at all. P...

Re: MOT failed need part advice

The antirollbar link is plastc (I think) and has a balljoint each end, we can't look up the parts diagrams any more so I can't tell you the proper name for the other link but it controls track (& trace?) and camber. A quick search later... yeah, there are loads of sites listing it as the antirollba...

Re: MOT failed need part advice

Look up, I did say no 13 in the diagram that Steve posted up. Yeah I noticed it was the same part. Don't forget what I said about the elliptical washers & bolts, you will need them (trust me) Yeah, it's straight forward enough, but you will need to get proper rear wheel alignment done after. Ellipt...

Re: MOT failed need part advice

Is this the part you are referring to? https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/p/ocap-suspension-arm-600735208 Never mind, been back to the garage and confirmed, this is the part. Why they have put it down as a ball joint is beyond me!! Every place online calls it a suspension link bar or anti roll bar link...
