It's been a pleasure

Ladies and Gents It's time for me to say au revoir Yesterday I purchased a "previously enjoyed" (OK 2nd hand) Jaguar X-Type 2.0D Sport (Ebonby Black, de-chromed) The poor old pug was starting to be not very well and will shortly need CamBelt and a major oil leak looked at My trusty 406 was starting ...

Re: Trying to get my remote fob/plip locking working!

I'd look at the wiring that goes into the back of the keypad - I'd hazzard a guess that perhaps one or two are boken! I also discovered that whilst the keypad worked, even once I'd completed the procedure to enable automatic disarm when using the remote control it simply wouldn't work. Fast forward ...

Re: Offside knock & a moan

Deffo sounds like engine mount to me too.... To be sure, park on level ground, stick it in gear and release the handbrake, open the bonnet, rock the car forward and backward, you'll see the engine move on the mounts, and if the mount is shot I'm sure you'll hear / see it knocking too. When I get ho...

Re: Offside knock & a moan

Sounds like top engine mount to me, it's easy enough to change Errm how easy is easy on a haynes 1-5 spanner? (changing wheels and taking the dash out to change bulbs I can do) engine mount sounds as if I should know what I should be doing and requires some serious tools For extra info: With the ha...

Re: Offside knock & a moan

big bloke aye I am at 6' 7" and 19 stone Can you feel the knock through the gearstick/pedals/steering? Nope can't feel it Try accelerating to a good speed, in neutral, then jab at the brake to bounce the front Nope doesn't do it then, nor if I rev the engine in neutral, it only seems to happen when...

Re: Offside knock & a moan

Pull away from stationary "knock" (varies with intensity) Change gear when accelerating hard (or a "kangaroo" change like a learner driver) "knock" Yes occasionally it happens over humps (but less so since the work on the suspension was done) Doesn't happen under braking (that I'm aware of at any ra...

Offside knock & a moan

Earlier today the car went for a service and an MOT Whilst it was being serviced, I requested that they sort out the "knock" that I had whilst under acceleration and changing gear, and also to look at the "low" squat on the off side rear I got the car back tonight (I picked it up after they were clo...

Re: Rear Fog lights on D8 (N Reg)

 Any chance on a rerun of your guide to hooking it up - I guess a nice thick bit of wire (which I think even I can do) jammed in to the socket (I doubt I'll be able to get the spade connector that goes into the terminal block mind) that runs back to the offside (working fog) and is some how sp...

Smelly heating system

 Today is the 2nd time I've been told my car smells when I put the heating on (not got AC) and both time's I've been told it smells like curry (I've had a look and can't see any chicken tikka stuck any where :cheesy: ) It doesn't smell when it's just pushing cold air, just when I apply heat :|...

Re: Pug's been clocked - help?

On the D8 406's the mileage is held in the instrument cluster. I had to change mine last sumer and the donor cluster showed about 5000 less miles than the car had done. Still it was worth it - my speedo and rev counter stopped doing silly things. But I seem to remmeber someone saying that if you rep...

Rear Fog lights on D8 (N Reg)

The 406 is off for an MOT on Tuesday (along with a service and to sort out the knocking rear suspension) I decided to clean the car (as it's been a while) and in the process decided to check all my lights The Near side fog light didn't work, so I changed it for a spare. Which also didn't work :| (I ...

Re: Silly Remote locking question

Any other D8 LX'ers out there that can take a quick look at theirs? Certainly On my N Reg LX, the indicators come on for a second when I lock the car but do nothing when I unlock. Just to make sure I've just tested it and given some poor drunken sod a shock as the car lit up like a christmas tree w...

Re: Battery choice for a 2.1TD

I've just put a VARTA into mine (1.8 16v) as I do a lot of short runs, with some longer ones in between and the local motor spares place recommended Varta. I think it's got 430Amps of output
