Many thanks for the help. Car back together. Improvised a bung with a piece of hose and a plastic wine cork. Amazingly the engine seems OK. Changed the oil as clearly the stuff had got well over temperature. The whole engine bay smells of serious overheating. Finger crossed its good for another 150K...

Hi Steve,
Many thanks looks like it is the plug 13/83 on the diagram. That would explain why there is no pipe to connect to. Now to find a piece of suitable hose and a bung, and then if the engine is properly cooked or not.

My topic seems to have disappeared. I edited the title to read "2.1td 12V thermostat" as it read t.1td before. There was a reply but I had not read it. Can you resurrect the post? thanks Bob

Hi All Overheated the engine today (left running and fans did not kick in). Engine got very hot. Dumped all the water. Hose from thermostat housing at back of engine has burst. Not the large one to the bottom of the rad but one about 20mm diameter internal. The hose ripped all the way round by the r...
