Re: 406 vs 307 so far...

Do these 1.4hdi engines have turbo's. I've also read about some special fluid from Peugeot that cost a fortune, what's that all about?
I was thinking maybe it's so slow is the turbo bust or something?

Re: 406 vs 307 so far...

I'd already bought the 307 so using it for now, once I'm able (broken leg) to look at my 406 and see what the problem is, I can decide if it's worth fixing. Worst case it's the gearbox but I'm hoping it's not. My 406 2litre petrol has done almost 140000 which is a lot for a petrol engine imo. As for...

406 vs 307 so far...

Hi, as you know my 406 developed a rattle which is yet to be diagnosed. (I broke my ankle last month so unable for a few more weeks :( ) I bought a little 307 1.4hdi to use for now. Straight away I noticed it's no-where near as comfy ride as my 406. In the 307 you feel every bump. Secondly as it's o...

Re: Peugeot 406 dying. Help and advice please.

Thanks for all the replies, this noise has progressed from a vibration on the cat to what it is now (a gawd awful racket) I've at some point changed the middle and back boxes and am confident all is well. The cat however I ignored the tinny vibration for years and when I initially heard this new rac...

Peugeot 406 dying. Help and advice please.

Hi all, sadly my 406 is getting a bit worn out. As you may remember I've been having problems with the locks spinning and now I have a rattle that sounds like I'm towing a bunch of empty cans. The noise you get from wedding cars that say "just married". For a few years I've had an intermittent rattl...

Re: Door locks

Hi thanks for the replys. Just to update the wd40 did nothing and now both locks just spin. I have managed to get the doors open as driving it 100 yards caused the dead locks to come off and the central locking to work normally. I still cant lock the car so security is a big issue but there's nothin...

Re: Door locks

Hi thanks for the reply's. Wd40 was the 1st thing I tried but no joy. The locks sometimes just spin until they eventually come to a solid stop. Usually a little more pressure on the key at that point forces the lock to open but not now. Worse is its both doors. I've also tried gently tapping the key...

Door locks

Hi, for a while now my locks have been getting stiffer (the key won't turn) This was only a slight issue and after a second or two they worked fine. Tonight however neither the drivers side or the passenger side would unlock. I was able to climb through the boot and into the car however this doesn't...

Re: 2000 406 Radio wiring

Hi, I recently replaced my cars standard radio/cd player, I replaced it with a Sony unit from halfords with.aux, and USB in. Works really well on the cars standard speakers. As for the connectors the stereo came with the standard black connector block which connected to the cars radio wires (connect...

Air bag light.

Hi all, another common problem arose again today so I thought I'd share it and the fix. Basically I had the airbag light come on again and the lcd said 'airbag fault'. The cause of this was the connectors under the passenger seat (last time it was the drivers side) the wires on mine if I recall corr...

Hello

I just wanted to introduce myself. My names Rob, and for the last 10 years or so I've had several 406 estates. The 1st was my old 1.9dt which refused to give up and was the best car on fuel I have ever known. In 2010 when it was just too much to get Betsy through another mot, I bought a 2002, 2ltr G...
