Re: Clicking noise from behind the wheel when accelerating

This simply indicates that the engine management systems would like to regenerate the dpf.

Around 5 mins at something like 3000 rpm will clear it.

Re: Going to DeFap...

Wise move posting your intentions on both 406 sites - it will make is easier when it comes time to insure the car. Do remember though that whilst you have "modified" the exhaust, declaring anything other than the fact that you have removed the DPF on the insurance would be withholding a material fac...

Re: Swapping computer hard drive advice

When I have had to move Windows from one drive to another I have used http://clonezilla.org/

Quite simple to use and manages to shift everything. My current PP2000 laptop has a clonezilla backup just in case something dies so that I can reinstall a working system very quickly.

Welcome

I assume that you have a D9 coupe, but as you are upside down down there you put the 9 in as a 6 :cheesy:

Have you signed up on the coupe site as well?

Mine came out easily - it is a slot in unit just like a dash mounted radio - use some radio pins and it will come out fine.

Is the ES9J4S the old or new one? The J4S is the later version - very easy to recognise under the bonnet -> http://www.406coupeclub.org/Coupe_Engines.asp I see a nice coupe on gumtree its not far from where i live: http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/peugeot-406-coupe/1055171909#photo-con...

EGR valve flow is wrong and turbo pressure too high, swirl flow diaphragm doesn't move. ... Lastly, the brake pedal is really hard when you first brake but after about a second the pedal starts to give a bit and the brakes work really well - would this point to a vacuum leak? Re: 2.2 HDi The Next Generation

So how does it work -- if the checksums don't match on the new map, or something else is somehow wrong, it uses a default map? I'm aware we're going a bit off topic here, sorry Rich  Best to think of the "boot mode" as the equivalent of booting from a recovery disk, you can do no more than re...

Re: 2.2 HDi The Next Generation

The EDC15 in the 406 is quite easy to work with any very easy to recover from a bricking.

Boot mode is the key, built in (mask rom) that is activated by grounding one of the CPU pins at start up. As it is a function of the CPU you need to burn out the CPU to lose boot mode.

Re: Can someone with a brain please read this..

That other link appears to be anti-DPF propaganda rather than a serious source of information. I'm glad you understood it all, otherwise I'd carry on suspecting that DPFs are a bad idea disastrously implemented  Having a DPF on my car, I did look at a lot of information both for and against ...

Re: Can someone with a brain please read this..

Interesting read - but it is only a literature summary. The figures quoted for the HDi give an increase of 800 (note quite 3 orders of magnitude, but that was for the 407) for total number of particles per cubic cm during regeneration. The technical compliance weighting (not taxation) is measured by...
