Re: For Sale - my trusty 406 HDi 90 Lx

Hi Shonkers. Sorry, but the car was sold yesterday for £500 so I removed the ad from Gumtree.

For Sale - my trusty 406 HDi 90 Lx

Hi All, Reluctantly, the time has come to part with my trusty 406 HDi (90) Lx, an early D9 model. It's advertised here: http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/peugeot-406-hdi-90-lx-silver-one-previous-owner-149000-miles-fsh/109528 Now we're retired, we don't need 2 cars so I'm finding good ho...

Re: mr clutch

I had my clutch changed by Mr Clutch nearly 3 years ago, only because I had hurt my back and couldn't do it myself and the clutch was on its last legs. They also beat my local garage by nearly £100. I checked it over afterwards and found that they had sheared off the centre of the 3 studs holding th...

Re: timing belt

After months of hesitation, I've just changed my timing belt for the first time and it was dead easy thanks to EvilTwin's excellent Knowledge Base article. I wasn't going to renew the water pump as it was only changed at the last belt change 65K ago. But after taking off the covers and seeing the te...

Re: Another air-con question

Just to add to the aircon knowledge database, my pug was losing gas only when the engine was running, with green oil coming from the lower block on the left hand side of the condenser. Had a vacuum test done and it was perfect, no leaks. Eventually turned out to be a hairline crack in the flange-to-...

Re: NON STARTER

Forgot to add, after changing the pump, change the fuel filter. I've seen 3 in-tank pump failures now (only 1 of them mine!) and all 3 have been caused by the commutator wearing down to the base, so the modes of failure were all electrical, not mechanical. The actual pump parts (the mechanical bits ...

Re: NON STARTER

It took me 30 minutes to change mine. The hardest bit was taking the back seat out! Under the back seat on the driver's side you'll see a plate held in with 3 pop rivets (I think some estates have a plastic press-fit cover). Drill these out and underneath you'll see the top of the lift pump. Undo th...

Re: HDi 90 Remap

I had my HDi 90 remapped by Jamie Shires http://www.sp-tuning.co.uk over 2 years ago and have no regrets at all. It has given me tons of low down grunt for towing the caravan while keeping my 50-55mpg consumption at motorway speeds. The car is a better drive all-round. It's all positives with no neg...

Re: The inevitable undertray issue....

The scrotes who did my clutch sheared the centre stud on mine. So I found an old M6 bolt, sawed the head off and 'glued' the stud in place with my welding kit. Just needed a nut and penny washer from my bits box and the job was done. Cost nil, time 15 mins.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS YOUR PUG COVERED?

My '99 HDi was ex-fleet with a FSH and 60K on the clock when we found each other back in '02. Since then I've added another 60k, and other than the usual lifex items and servicing, the car has only had to have a new ac condenser, clutch and lp fuel pump (£700 in total). Reading posts about the 110HP...

Re: Tank slapper

Just to add my penny's worth, my pump went last week (HDi, 118,000 miles on the clock). Bad news was that our local dealer wanted £207 for a new pump. Good news was that our local Bosch agent got me one same day for £90. Old one out and new one in in only 30 mins. Mode of failure was a heavily worn ...

My symptoms were much like Welton's, but I also noticed that the gearstick was moving around alot more than it used to when accelerating/deaccelerating in traffic. Like Welton, I spotted the cause of the problem while doing an oil change - the 2 rubber webs connecting the bush centre to the outer ri...

I did this job last year and it was much easier than I expected! It took me only a couple of hours and cost £14.86 for the bush (part no 180930 and called a 'flexible bush') from the dealers. I think factors like GSF sell them for half that. Haynes tells you to remove the halfshaft and the casting t...

Oh bugger, knew I forgot something. Just changed the rear silencer box as it had started chuffing just before the MOT.

Model: '99 HDi 90 LX saloon Miles: 110K (50K mine) The only non-consumables have been: a/c condenser - £315 handbrake switch - £5 gearbox rubber mounting bush - £15 bottom pulley and waterpump changed with cambelt at 60k just before I bought it. I suppose I should start thinking about changing the b...
