Re: MJBs V6 Review

Great piece of keyboard work there MJB - but do you really expect to be taken seriously reviewing a £600 motor!!!!!!! Pig in a poke springs to mind mate - you don't get much of a car these days for that sort of dosh, as for your remark on handling I bet its never seen new suspension for years! :wink...

Re: Should the 2.2 HDi be avoided ?

This particulate filter is an issue on newish Vauxhalls as well. I think its just one of those things. I'm going to sell my 406 2.2i Sri and buy a diesel because of the much improved fuel economy and have plans to look at a 53 plate 406 Coupe 2.2 HDi for £6k this weekend. Diesels are for me because ...

Not bad price that.
I paid £260 for a new clutch in mine this week. Must be the month for failing clutches!

Re: 2000 406 Hdi 90 compared to 2004 Mondeo TDci 90

My first company car was a 2001 New shape Y reg Mondeo Zetec Tdi 115 BHP(Not commonrail version)at a cost of £14500 (discounted) when I got it, it was an absolutely brilliant machine, the critics now say it was a more reliable set up than the TDCi. I did 87000 miles in it in 3 years and it never mis...

Re: Suspension a bit firm?

My 2.2 Sri has the 16" factory fit alloys (swame as the 'S' ones) with 205/55 tyres on and I think the ride is spot on, very fluent but sharp enough to match most if not beat most other saloons of its time. Tracking is cruical on the 406 though and I have had it done twice as I believe there is a bi...

Re: Help! Clutch has gone.

your spot on there more than likely though the subframe is misaligned, my one was like this after doing the clutch Ok thanks James. If it is mis-aligned, how would a small independant garage (i.e the one who fitted the clutch) go about rectifying this? Because if like you say, its mis-aligned, then...

Re: Help! Clutch has gone.

Car back, now with an excellent lowish biting point, much better than old clutch. HOWEVER, as it was late when I picked the car up and the garage was about to close, I paid the bill and got in car and drove home with stiff steering! The pump seems to be working, its not too difficult to go from lock...

Re: Help! Clutch has gone.

Cars gone into a garage for a new clutch - estimated cost £300. It was the release bearing as some have said, luckily it made the 7 miles to the garage.
One Fastfit centre wanted £470!!!!!!!!!!! for a new clutch. Expect 7 hours labour apparently. Get the car back monday night all being well.

Help! Clutch has gone.

Help, especially any north east members who know of a reasonably priced garage that fits new clutches (I'm 15 miles from Durham City). My 2.2 Sri has a very poorly clutch, when you press the clutch pedal down it creates a violent whirring sound, releasing the pedal and the noise goes away, i guess i...

Strut Top Bearing Plate

Just thought I'd share this with you folks. My 2001 Sri started to knock when turning the steering at low speeds and when at a standstill and turning the steering. Got the mechanic I use to check it out - apparently its a common failing on Pugs - the strut top bearings / plate wear away meaning the ...

Re: Thinking of buying my 1st 406

For what its worth; I don't rate the 406 that highly on build quality, I have a 2001 2.2 SRi and its a low miler with few owners but it has some shoddy build quality over other marques I have driven and owned that would be comparable on age. I traded my Volvo S40 2.0i X reg in for the 406 and thats ...

Re: Rear seat base in a D9 saloon

if its a D9 then you need to remove the outer seat bolsters (the side bits) and this reveals more bolts holiding the base in place, also undo the 2 front bolts, if its a D8 then its just the front ones Thanks James, how do I remove the side bolsters? If i drop the rear seat backs does it reveal som...

Rear seat base in a D9 saloon

I need to remove the rear seat base (i.e the bit you sit on) from my Sri saloon, the reason being is the seat belt stalks are not in their right position, they are protuding from the seat uprights and not in the slots in the seat base. No amount of tugging seems to be moving them, I need to lift the...
