Having resolved the broken cam belt isue with another engine[ £700 fitted] I have a very flappy aux belt. Is failing spring tension a common problem with the automatic tensioner? I intend to replace the belt any way but any comments?

The belt is broken. Never never never believe a man, woman or a dog telling you a car has a good cam belt without documentry evidence.
Thanks for the advice guys but having got the Haynes manual it informs me that the engine must be removed to get the head off!
Any one want to buy a 406?

I strogly suspect that my cam belt has failed while at 70mph. Sudden loss of power followed by rapid [machine gun fire] mechanical, tappet like noise [valves hitting pistons]?
