Re: I can haz a new Car and a free.......

Glad to hear you've come out the other side Welly! We recently lost my Wifes Mother. She was watching TV about a month ago and had a massive stroke. 57, not overweight and reasonably fit. She was our full-time childcare which means my Wife has had to quit work so it's had some massive financial impl...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Picked up a 2017 Dacia Logan MCV Laureate about 2 weeks ago with 100k on the clock. It belonged to a bus company who used it as a pool vehicle to move drivers around when their tacho time was up. Honestly, it drives like it just rolled out of the factory. I'm seriously impressed with it, especially ...

Re: Oil extractor question

I tend to have an oil change day twice a year. I let everyone know that I'm changing oil and if they want theirs done to bring a car and a filter. I usually have 30-40 litres of oil in the garage at any one time. Usually I bulk buy something with Porsche A40 approval as it's a very stout and tough s...

Re: Oil extractor question

You're all a bunch of pansies. If your armpit isn't full of oil at the end of an oil change, did you even change the oil? :supafrisk:

Re: Domestic Lighting cable sizing

I've remembered now, the sparkies here crimp ferrules on the wires, then crank 'em down. Yes, one more potential poor connection/fire risk... I suspect that's because they're using fine stranded cables. I actually quite like using 6181B style cables with ferrules on the ends, they're very robust an...

Re: Domestic Lighting cable sizing

If you're doing up terminations to the point where cables are breaking then you're doing them up too tight :supafrisk:

Re: Domestic Lighting cable sizing

Your cable size is dictated by the size of your protective device. If you have a 6A MCB then I would suggest you'd be just fine with 1.0mm. It wouldn't surprise me if in the near future we start using smaller sized circuits for lighting. With LED's they are often well oversized. Only issue is the me...

Re: Is it too late for a change?

You don't need the genuine fluid. Honestly, most universal automatic transmission fluids work just fine. If you've changed the oil and filters once, a drain and fill should be an easy process. Easily doable on your drive. Infact, I think ZF actually put the service procedure on their website.... htt...

Re: Is it too late for a change?

From what I read over on Bob Is The Oil Guy, LG Red containers lots of esters which are great for cleaning up varnish and sludge which can effect how the valve body works. Certainly has worked for me in the past!

Re: Is it too late for a change?

I usually get ~45 litres in once the fuel light comes on. So that's 10 gallons near as damn it. 200miles works out ~20mpg. I assume your 35d has a ZF 6HP? They're pretty reliable boxes. I'd be tempted to do a handful of drain & fills with an additive like Lubegaurd Red. I've 'fixed' a few gearboxes ...

Re: Is it too late for a change?

Bailes, Off topic I know but, how do you find the st220 on fuel just urban & knocking around Not on a run. I've heard that they can be as bad as 17mpg urban, 24mpg mixed & 34mpg on a run. I ask as I might have to give up the 535d & I've seen a ST220 estate in very good condition near me & it's in m...

Re: Is it too late for a change?

Is wanting to change careers a common thing? I’m also in a similar boat, except I wouldn’t mind becoming a spark 😂. I’m 36 and have been looking at how we could survive taking a wage cut. Is there any chance your employer can offer a sabbatical? Take a year and see how it goes? That way you should ...

Re: Is it too late for a change?

My biggest gripe with the industry at the moment is with the document uploading/sharing systems like 4P or BimXTRA. If you try to 'RFI' or ask anyone for anything these days its... "It's on 4P" rather than just telling you the answer. Or if during install you hit a snag, there's no offer to help it ...

Re: Is it too late for a change?

Thanks All. I think I'm going to aim for it and hopefully get in a position in 3-4 years where my Wifes pay can cover all our bills. Even if it means for 6 months I'm delivering pizzas and chineese to keep food on our own table. My idea would be to try setup and maintain a business with as little ov...

Is it too late for a change?

The last 2-3 weeks I've been having a serious think about the possibility of doing my own thing in 3-4 years time. I'm an Electrician by trade and work as a site manager/project manager on some very large projects. Pay is fantastic and at 25 I bought a 4 bedroom detached new-build house and at 27 I'...
