Re: Tick over rises as car starts to roll-WHY !!!

The tick over is related to the speed sensor which is connected to the engine ecu etc. When my speed sensor failed I noticed when I declutched that the revs dropped lower than normal? The ecu keeps the revs about 100 rpm higher when any speed is detected (wether in neutral or not). It makes for a sm...

Re: Another air-con question

Hooray! Got a guy to look at my air-con Wednesday. Said the gas was low, took it out, checked with dye and light then refilled it. Doesn't appear to have any leaks so must have finally run out after 10 years! He took the grill off and the slam panel to have good look and reassembled it all after. To...

Door check links

looked in the manual to find them described as such! A couple of months ago all four of doors were creaking so loud it was embarrassing, so I took the mechanism apart and regreased all the rollers. All was fine until last week when the front passenger door started making a noise. The door wouldn't s...

Another air-con question

Separate post as i have different symptoms. Last year it was getting a bit slow to cool down. Worked for demsting all winter, then I didn't use for a while as the Bsi was off for repair. Went to use it and and no cold air.Air-con compressor made a noise when switched on. Ah! I thought (same as my fo...

Re: NSF Window inop

Thanks for prompt replies , when you say that the n/s switch is a 'slave' , and the main switch is the master , does this mean that if the main switch is not working for the passenger window , then the window will not work as my main switch only works for my drivers window , although I dont underst...

Re: NSF Window inop

Had this on my mates 406. Spent an afternoon swapping motors before I realised the passenger door has a "slave" switch! The drivers door switches are the master. They're usually gummed up. Try some contact cleaner (you can get them apart if you are careful!) Or swap the unit over with another one. A...

Re: Immobiliser fault

Right, done over a thousand miles since cleaning the engine ECU pins and wiring socket and it's cured the problem. My car has always been sluggish but seems to go a bit better now and the mpg for alround driving is around 45ish. could cleaning with contact cleaner have improved this or it just wishf...

thanx
the switch is only a few quid from most autofactors, (easy to fit if you have small hands!) if it isn't the switch have a look here as the brake light loom runs under the carpet.

Re: Replacing front fog lamp

I did both of mine but the top bolt you have to feel for it then with a shortish ratchet driver you can reach it without removing the bumper. jack up the front of the car and move the plastic shields and you can see better.

Re: Door Swicthes?

Hi, I have a slightly different question on the same theme, when i open any door apart from the drivers door the curtesy light and centre light come on as they should but for some reason not when i open the drivers door. I have looked for a contact on the door shut but there appears not to be one.An...

Re: Immobiliser fault

Well it's been two weeks and 2000 miles and the immobiliser came on again! Got passed it once then it stayed on. I remembered the techie telling me that the Bsi talks to the engine ECU and if there is any fault with the return info it will flag up the immobliser. I unplugged the engine ECU and...

Re: Immobiliser fault

Finally got the BSi back last week. Got it programmed on tuesday and it works. To be fair the recon co. closed over christmas and had a few people off sick as well as a healthy workload! They "virginalised" it so it had to be reset with the key codes. Only off the road for 6 weeks! Total cost ...
