2.1TD - Noisy Turbo
Hi all In the last couple of days my engine/turbo has suddenly progressed from the usual whistling to a very noticeable louder whistle/shriek (almost an electric motor at full chat in sound!) It still drives with no noticeable loss in power, so I've had to come to the conclusion that the turbo beari...

Weird electrical fault - cig lighter/12v supply and stereo
Hey all I've noticed a bit of a weird fault in my car (S Reg 2.1TD LX Estate) The cig lighter/12V socket has recently packed up, which is a pain in the arse as i cant charge anything whilst on the move. I've also fitted a new kenwood stereo which doesnt seem to have any residual power going to it (w...

Is there anything like this, but for the 2.1TD engine?

Re: Suspension Heights
Ah ok, thats something to consider I was basically hoping i could swap in the suspension from another model of 406 to drop it slightly without buggering around with expensive aftermarket lowering springs Was also hoping that the v6 engine was similar weight to my 2.1TD, so the spring rates would be ...

Suspension Heights
Hey all
Do the stock suspension strut/shock/spring heights differ between models?
For instance - would V6 coupe struts (the sportiest model) be shorter than diesel estate struts, and would they fit?
Thanks
Tim

Tentative Wanted - lowering springs
Hey all
Cleaning up my car and slowly overhauling the suspension/wheels etc
Has anyone got any lowering springs (-40mm) available for a 2.1TD Estate? Intrigued in trying it a bit lower with my new wheels (refurbed v6 alloys)
Thanks!

Re: Heater blower Fan stuck on full max speed D9. The solution
Does this only affect D9 406's?
My S reg 2.1TD has recently developed the same problem - it started when I switched the AC off and the heater blower jumped to max and is stuck there. Is the fix the same for the pre-face lift model or is it a different problem with the same symptom?
Thanks!

Roof Bars
Hi all I've got an estate with roof-rails, and want to fit some cross bars to allow me to carry bikes/boards etc when the boot is full of other bikes and boards :-) I've seen a few estates with cross bars that are very low profile, and the bar itself seems to clamp round the rail rather than being s...

Re: Gearboxes, clutches and 2.1 Tuning
Cheers guys - good replies as ever! I realise talking about a car not revving high, and not having a 6th gear is a bit odd, but two different trains of thought colliding :-) I'm quite used to diesels, and have done 20,000 in this one so far :-) The turbo spools up freely and nicely, with a nice whin...

Gearboxes, clutches and 2.1 Tuning
Ayup all Was there a 406 with a 6spd box? My 2.1TD is 5spd and on the motorway it really feels like it needs a 6th gear to knock the revs down - if not 406 , 306GTi6 box possibly? Do you think this would be possible (or worthwhile)? My clutch also bites very high in the pedal stroke - is this normal...

Jacking a 406 (2.1TD)
Greetings all first post, and a question. Need to jack my estate up to check the front suspension and brakes. I have a trolley jack and axle stands, but am unsure of where to jack. Is there a central point that i can jack at, and then place the axle stands at the regular jacking points on the sills?...
