Re: Front suspension spring broke
Oh dear Sollyboy, sorry to hear your news. same thing happened to me 200 miles from home after filling up with diesel. From waht I understand it's prone to happen during low speed manouevres which is a blessing I suppose! Mine took out the rubber gaiter and brake line but even so wasn't hideously ex...

Hi Welly, Not sure if I'm disappointed about not being allowed a badge or not! She starts on the button whatever the weather, seems be smoke free except when the hammer goes down on the motorway. Don't get me wrong, she runs like a dream as mentioned in first post. It's the cost of almost any repair...

Re: Bad luck or money pit? 2.1 TD estate
On a more serious note, the AA really put the icing on the cake for me a couple of days after picking me up. Sat in traffic on the M1 I get a call from their customer satisfaction wallahs asking if I would answer a survey for them. Well they caught me at a week moment so I said yes. After running th...

Ok, so I have to ask, why do you have a 110 as well as the 2.1TD?

Re: Bad luck or money pit? 2.1 TD estate
Now that's a good point, corrosion inhibitor. She's high mileage (c170k) so probably nearer a grand. Judging by how quickly they disappear off autotrader I don't think I'd have a problem shifting her. As you say buy another and I could be starting the whole spending cycle again. But did I make the r...

Bad luck or money pit? 2.1 TD estate
Oh Lord, why me? Working away last week and had a very floppy (hydraulic) clutch pedal for a few days, generally sitting about an inch off the floor but still working. Popped in to see my mechanic at the weekend who checked the reservoir (I know, durrrr!) and finding it empty topped it up and pumped...

Re: Cam belt change cost for 2.1 TD (1998)
Does anyone do a 'Werther's Original' flavour air freshener? Might as well go the whole hog on the grandad image rather than rip out the three piece suite.Shame about the hideous beige upholstery.
Scan fleabay for something tastier?

Re: Cam belt change cost for 2.1 TD (1998)
Thanks for the feedback one and all. Why would you run the water pump off the cam belt? Makes no sense to me. Thanks for the advice though, makes sense to change anything with a bearing in there whilst it's all apart. I'll start a ring round tomorrow. First week now complete and we've been to Pinner...

Cam belt change cost for 2.1 TD (1998)
Now so deeply in love with my 406 (after 3 days and 830 miles) I can't bear the thought of losing her to a snapped rubber band. Could I seek the advice of more experienced owners than me as to what a fair price might be and whether anyone could recommend a Peugeot savvy garage in the MK43 (North Bed...

Ronin, what a fantastic film. brilliant final scene at the ice skating. Wish De Niro would stick to what he does best and leave the 'comedy' alone. He and Jean Reno(?) are brilliant together

Re: nother newbie from rural beds
Thanks one and all for the welcome. First day's hard graft with the car today, Loughborough and back (160 ish miles for me). Blimey I've got auto wipers, who'd have thought? Filthy night on return, driving rain and ridiculous cross winds but even with two sets of ladders on she's straight as a die. ...

Hi all, Just picked up my new (to me) 1998 2.1TD 406 diesel estate today. Third diesel estate but first 406 and fark me it's fab! 140k but drives like a dream and feels solid as a rock. Dk metallic red with upholstery in a hideous beige colour. Looks like yer grandad's dream car but god I love drivi...
