Fuel Pressure Regulator
Hi Folks, I think I've got a fuelling issue on my exec tubby, seems to be over fuelling on tickover, so burbles, coughs and hunts for a steady rev, but on the road, after 4k on the revs it runs out of puff. The question is... is the fuel pressure regulator the circular item on the top of the injecti...

Re: What have you fixed or replaced on your 406?
I was coming to the conclusion that fuelling was the problem here as it does run out of puff at 4000 revs when I've seen these cars fly up to the redline... might also be why it idles like a nail, real lumpy and pops alot (sounds good with the exhaust tho :P ) I don't run it with silly amounts of bo...

Re: What have you fixed or replaced on your 406?
OK, this is going to be a hell of a list if I can remember everything..... but from the top of my head in 2.5 years: Rear suspension drop links (the rubber/plastic anti-roll bars) Rear discs/drums overhaul rear trailing arm Front drop links Front pads it's had 4 new tyres recon turbo exhaust manifol...

Re: turbos
Hi Martyn, I found that the turbo is a Garrett T25 which is also used on Saab's (95, or 2000, I can't remember). When I asked Niz to build me a turbo as mine seized, we used a core off a Saab (flea bay) but had to use the compressor housing and exhaust housing off the 406 turbo as each car has a dif...

Re: 2.0 Cat
Do you have a turbo or a 16v?
I ask because I've got a cat knocking around for the turbo which I could do with shifting, only done around 3000miles before I put a powerflow stainless system on it.

Re: F'ing and Blinding Rear Springs :(
Just a note to say the Haynes manual does say to unbolt the lower arm and let it drop free and the spring just lifts out, put new one in the seating cups and do back up. Piece of pi...... cake  I had Niz's lowered springs, so we installed them 'together' and I just took his front dampers with ...

Re: OK... who was it?
I guess so, but the fact he ran rings around me, I don't think he'll be too bothered. Just trying to find out who it was as I would like to know what he'd done to make his pug shift more then mine... wondered if he'd had it chipped or something.

OK... who was it?
I finally spotted my first 406 turbo (without looking into shop windows at my reflection)! yay! It looked pretty well looked after, S-reg D8, blue, original alloys, dump valve, lots of sh*t hanging in the back window, silver trim and black D9 leathers spotted on the bottom of the M60 at 3pm-ish toda...

Re: SRI TURBE OR NOT TURBE
Well, you learn something new every day then, I thought all SRI's were the 8v turbo units, looks like the 16valve bug passed thoughout all the range then.
Just wondering what you could do to give it a bit more pluck lower down.... Maybe an induction kit, or does that just help with forced induction?

Re: SRI TURBE OR NOT TURBE
It should be the same engine as in my '96 exec and it had always felt slow, after throwing too much money at it and a few trips to see Niz it was the intercooler which had a crack down the pipe on the side of the intercooler, apparently a common problem. Also, I did seize my turbo at one point and t...

Re: Oh bugger, Ithink the turbo's died
That is true, I think I know the problem so I'm not paying to diagnose, I'm paying to install, which I guess any spanner monkey could do... one would hope :| I know you've prob been over every inch of your problem, but by any chance is the wastegate actuator at fault? If the turbo is spooling in my ...

Re: Oh bugger, Ithink the turbo's died
hmmm.... This whole fiasco worries me. When Niz has referbed me a turbo for my baby, I'm not confident enought to install it myself, so it'll have to go into a garage to have it done....and also the cambelt whilst it is there. By what has gone on, isn't that a full invite to bend me over their recep...
