Re: MOT fail
Another update on the car. Managed to get the handbrake adjusted up solid on 3 clicks now. All new parts discs, h/brake shoes and pads. Had to replace the handbrake cable on both sides at the rear no amount of wd40 or grease would have worked the outer part of the cables was split. I found that the ...

I've had 3 go's at this now and i'm begining to think it might be easier to cut the cables and solder them ...

Re: MOT fail
Hi Jasper Thanks for the info that helps a lot. My neighbour hasn't kept up with the servicing so i guess thats why emissions readings are so high. Its down to me whether it passes. I'm contemplating an oil change as well won't do any harm. The side air bag light i was talking about are the connecto...

MOT fail
Hi everyone not been on here in a while. Nissan micra isn't quite the same as a 406. Next door neighbour has my 406 now. Its just failed the mot and hes got a list of things to do. There are two items on the list that we are not sure about. First one is o/s/f position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.3b) ...

Re: nissan micra spark plug leads
Hi Jasper This micra i bought isn't too bad it had a bit of welding done on it a while ago behind the back seat. I just cleaned a lot of surface rust on the back end and used rust killer and gave it a coat of chasis black then some underseal. Averages 40mpg which is all stop start driving was expect...

Re: nissan micra spark plug leads
Thanks Jasper Sounds a bit like the same sort of problem with the distributor cap on the mini. I'll give that a go with a plastic bag as theres a lot of water on the roads round these parts. The car runs fine just thought i'd give it a service as the parts are pretty cheap and it looks like we are g...

Re: MAIN AIRBAG LIGHT
Thanks Lozz Didn't think of that. 406 has been sold to the neighbour as a runabout his volvo s40 blew up head gasket went. I will have a look and see if the wires/connector on seat belt pretensioners are to blame. I'm now driving a nissan micra. Lol Its not too bad though ideal for my job as a carer...

Re: Droning noise
Hi Just an update on this. Had a look at this again yesterday. Looks like the n/s/f wheel bearing is shot. Even though The new tyres made things a lot quieter than the previous pair there's still a noise there. With the car on axle stands i spun both wheels round by hand as fast as possible and foun...

Re: Track control bushes (front)
Hi I did this job a couple of months ago.If you are on a tight budget and want cheapest option i would buy the bushes and do it yourself but make sure you get decent bushes otherwise you may find yourself having to do this job again. Some of the bushes on ebay are poor quality so make sure you go fo...

Re: rear tyre scrubbed
I had the same problem with my 406 if the stabiliser links are ok then it will be a 4 wheel alignment you need. The rear tyres will not last long either if the alignment is wrong. I had a 4 wheel alignment done recently and it made a hell of a difference the rear tyres are wearing evenly and not scr...
