Re: On-going tickover/stalling issue
Hello to all who have tried to help me. Just to let you know which car I went for and what happened with my old 406.I had a test drive in a 2007 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 petrol “Design”, which I think is the top of the range and was instantly very impressed with how smooth ,quiet, and perky it was. The bu...

Re: On-going tickover/stalling issue -Progress-mjb
I actually replaced the fuel pump quite recently and the filter ,and double relay. Doing some searches on line ,these latest symptoms seem to indicate that the crank shaft sensor is failing when hot ,so i replaced that as well with no luck. You are right ,I do need to move on now and accept that i h...

Re: On-going tickover/stalling issue -Progress-mjb
This is just to let all you guys know ,especially MJB ,who I know tried his best to help me diagnose my very irritating idling/stalling fault on my 406 , but then gave up i reckon ,but I have finally come to the end of my tether with my car ,because yesterday on the way home after a fair run, it bog...

Can the fuel pump/ECU relay intermittently die?
Is it possible for the double relay which sits next to the ECU,which powers the fuel pump and ECU, to fail momentarily, causing the engine to suddenly die,or try to die.?

Re: Can a fuel pump intermittently cut-out ?
I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator valve and fuel filter, and the fault still remains. So much for the RAC guys theory ! The only thing left i can think of doing is to replace the double relay which feeds the fuel pump and ECU,and get the injectors proffessionally cleaned and teste...

Re: Can a fuel pump intermittently cut-out ?
If the Redex Injector cleaner failed to improve matters,I was going to try ultra sonic cleaning. Yes my 406 has a double relay next to the ECU,which feeds the ECU and the Fuel Pump.I dont think it is this relay because ,if that failed ,it would kill the ECU ,which i would have thought would have eff...

Can a fuel pump intermittently cut-out ?
For those of you who may recognise this fault from a previous posting , please don’t groan as I feel I am very near to solving this fault, and could really do with some more advise from you guys please. I have owned a 1996 2Ltr 16v petrol LX 406 from new ,which has now covered 167,000 miles on the o...

On-going tickover/stalling issue
Hello mjb and others , Just to let you know where I am up to on my car. I have just replaced the VSS and heat shield, and the car started fine, ran well, with no faltering or hesitating or stalling until i went round a roundabout ,depressed the clutch to change gear and the engine died. It started b...

Hello mjb, Just to let you know where I am up to on my car. I have replaced the VSS and heat shield, and the car started fine, ran well, with no faltering or hesitating or stalling until i went round a roundabout with the car in neutral and the engine died. It started back up ok, but then started to...

Re: Does oil seperator/breather ever need cleaning
Hi lozz, yes the unit is part of the engine breathing circuit and is sealed and does have a gauze element inside which is meant to catch oil residue and according to the Master Tech at my dealer also acts as a "flame blow back retarder". This i guess is to stop a backfire back into the rocker cover ...

Does oil seperator/breather ever need cleaning
I have owned a 1996 2Ltr 16v petrol LX 406 from new ,which has covered 165,000 miles, and I have never replaced or cleaned out the oil seperator/breather which is connected to the rocker cover via a short tube, which i think (?) vents oil vapour back into the engine to be burnt. The unit is a small ro...

Re: On going 406 tickover issue -Progress mjb.
I had the car up on the ramps yesterday,(hate that bit) and found the connector thanks to mjb's picture(thanks),and discovered the vehicle speed sensor connector was missing it's heat shield and was a bit dirty inside. So i cleaned it up and then experimented to see how difficult it was to remove the...

Re: On going 406 idling issue -Break through
MJB,I have discovered something else regarding my tickover/stalling problem on my 406,and wanted to run it past you to see if my new findings effected your theory on my fault being caused by the"Vehicle speed Sensor" being faulty. With the engine ticking over normally at 950rpm,if I let the car roll ...

Did Peugeot swop Sagem coil pack for Bujicord version
I drive a 1996 2Ltr 16v Petrol LX ,and would like to know if Peugeot stopped using the SAGEM coil pack on 406's, in preference for the BUJICORD/Other version in order to cure an erratic tickover/stalling problem. I ask this because along with an existing fault where my 406 intermittently revs up and...
