Re: No power to starter motor
Those wheel nuts were pinched while the car was in their care? I don't think so - the garage rang me as soon as they noticed to let me know. I've been using them for over 20 years and do trust them on this. Possibly they were half-inched while parked away from our house on the hill, though it's sti...

Re: No power to starter motor
Well finally after a faultless November one wet early December morning I got the non-starting problem again. It wasn't a massive deal as I had temporary use of another car, but annoying as local garage said they'd come to have a look and fix it and never turned up. Then just after Xmas I had the "pr...

Re: No power to starter motor
Thanks for the replies.... I don't think it's a battery connection issue as everything else electric appeared to work. The problem hasn't arisen in the five or so times I've used the car since my first post but of course it will happen again when I park away from home...probably on a yellow line. On...

Re: No power to starter motor
Thanks for the quick response Steve. "Unfortunately" since posting the ignition has worked so unable to perform the test you mentioned. Will wait till it stops again and try again unless the wife forces me to get rid of this otherwise worthy workhorse. Intermittent problems are some of the hardest t...

No power to starter motor
Hi. I hope I'm posting in the correct topic. I've tried searching here to no avail. The other week I turned the key and although everything lit up on the dashboard the starter motor did nothing. I managed to start the car after a push to get it home but still nothing happening with the starter motor...

Re: Rear number plate lights and wiper not working
Spot on jasper5! I pulled back the rubber protector to find seven of the wires broken. A trip to the local DIY shop to get some wire strippers and strong tape, and half an hour later I'd reconnected them and patched them up. Not sure how long they will last like that but they'll get me past the MoT ...

Re: Rear number plate lights and wiper not working
Thanks highlander, I wiggled a pin around in the rear water outlet thing and indeed a few seconds later the water was coming out (I wish this was what failed the MoT). I also noticed that the water comes from the right hand side, not the left where the wires are for my broken parts - so my theory of...

Rear number plate lights and wiper not working
Hi, Tried to search here for my specific problem with no luck. My 'S' reg 1998 406 2l Estate just failed its MoT for the first time out of the three it's been through since I've had it. On rear number plate lights. The guys at the garage tried replacing the bulbs to no avail, and suggested it may be...

Re: CD changer stuck
Thanks mjb, I had tried the whack to no avail, as well as numerous thin metal appliances down the side to help it up. This time I brought a screwdriver set with the intention of removing the unit and forcing the magazine out. And guess what...the "eject" button decided to work for the first time... ...

CD changer stuck
Hi, I'm sure I've found some info on this in these forums before but can't seem to find any now. I have a 1998 406 GLX Estate that I bought from a mate and I really like, except that I am cursed with his wife's musical taste as the CD changer in the back won't eject. I believe it's meant to hold 6 C...
