Re: 1.9TD In-Tank Fuel Pump Problem

Thanks guys, I've confirmd this by taking off the electrical connector between the inlet and outlet hoses. I assumed a pump was there as there are four wires in the loom, but the connector only has two pins, hence it must be a sender only. I've looked at the before and after post, I'm guessing this ...

1.9TD In-Tank Fuel Pump Problem

Hi all, Not a regular so thanks in advance for any advise you can give me. I have an S-reg 406 1.9TD estate. It has a fault which is getting more regular where the engine turns over fine but will not start. I took the top of an injector off and noticed no diesel coming through so took a look at the ...

Re: Checking coolant level

Any photos of the 'funny bit'? I'm sure I'll find it but I'm also thinking of people searching in the future.

Re: Checking coolant level

Is that inside the filler neck of the tank? If so, how do you see when the coolant's over it??? I know the cap is a pressure valve so over-filling shouldn't be an issue, but it certainly doesn't do it any good! Very strange system. I don't like leaving it for the warning light to come on - that's to...

Checking coolant level

I'm probably going to sound very thick now...

I've checked the manual and searched around on here but can't see how you check the coolant level. All my previous cars have had a clear MIN and MAX mark on the expansion tank, but the 406's is black. How on earth do you check the level?

Re: 406 1.9TD starting problem

Not sure when the glow plugs were last changed, but they are very shiny NGKs so not long ago I'd guess. I may have found the problem, the wiring running to the far left injector (I think that's what it is) had come out of the clip and was dangling near the throttle. Having put this back I've seen no...

Re: 406 1.9TD starting problem

Does anyone have any feedback on this? Mine seems to have developed a similar problem (also a 1.9TD). Yesterday after putting in £40 diesel from Shell it would not start (starter motor turning but engine not firing). After 3 or 4 attempts running the starter for ~5 seconds it fired and then ran perf...

Re: Hi and a few questions

Thanks guys. Great so a hot air con pipe is normal, phew! Yes, the noise is only apparent with the ignition on (and also with the engine running), but never with the ignition and engine off. I noticed the noise changes (a bit louder and 'grindier' - for want of an actual word) with the recirc button...

Hi and a few questions

I'm new so Hi everyone! I've just bought an S-reg (1998) 406 1.9 LX TD estate with 88K miles. Great car overall, very happy with it. I bought it as a workhorse to help with DIY (got lots planned this year) and for carting my two dogs around. There are a few little niggles which I wanted some guidanc...
