Re: Engine knock

Yep spot on. Bearings and crank are shot. It looks as if the bearing from the cap ended up under the other one. I'm pretty sure the rod is damaged as well becasue the cap was very difficult to release and then it also needs forcing back together again. You can see how the groove on the crank has bee...

Re: Engine knock

Wee update just for anyone following the thread... Pulled the head off last night and found what looks like marks from the piston hitting the head. Luckily I think it has only grazed it rather than create a noticeable lip on the head or piston. Il will know better once I clean it up. So bottom beari...

Re: Engine knock

Its great to get useful replies so quick. Glad to see the forum is still busy.

Luckily I have another spare engine that had a turbo failure. So shouldnt be to much bother building a good one from the two.

Re: Engine knock

Yes its the knocking noise, mine is doing the exact same, I am sure ill find out if its the bearings as soon as I start taking it apart. The reason I posted it up is because as said im not too familiar with petrol engines and after taking the engine out I noticed a part in the back of the Haynes tha...

Engine knock

I haven't posted on here in a long while as I haven't been using the 406 in a while, mainly due to the following problem... My own engine, the 2.0 8v turbo developed a knocking noise and after checking the head, cam, tensioners, turbo etc. basically all that was easily accessible without screwing to...

Re: ddoherty406 Back in Black

Cheers fellas. @ Welly - A fella had the same wheels on a ford focus at the end of my street, I was thinking they would suit it and when I seen a set for sale with the spacers i snapped them up. Means now i can also throw on other ford alloys that take me fancy. Yea the back is lower intentionally. ...

Re: ddoherty406 Back in Black

Well with the good weather and rally weekend i decided to treat the car to a good clean. Ideally it needs a proper detail, but i did the best i could by hand. Also a few simple things done to it.... Removed door piller vinyls. They were all cracked and tarnished looking. Usually I prefer them on a D...

Re: ddoherty406 Back in Black

Cheers guys. Yea will be moving on to the lights next. clear/darked repeaters, still undecided about the black masks tho, mite be too much black. The wheels are oz titans, 17s, and i think theyre are 205/50s tyres. then because they are ford fitment there are 25mm spacers and longer bolts. I was loo...

Re: ddoherty406 Back in Black

The car went through the Mot with the 40mm 406 lowering springs in no bother. Anything lower and you would need shortened shocks as the dampers tend to bottom out. With the half a coil cut off the rears the springs are still solid even when jacked up so theres no problems there, its only a very smal...

Re: ddoherty406 Back in Black

Cheers Todd. In the earlier pics... yes it felt really really bumpy to drive thats why ive raised it up since, In them pics I had the 40mm 406 lowering springs in the front and Toyota Carina lowering springs of some sort in the back. Wasnt as bad as no springs in the back tho. Since then Ive cut hav...

Re: ddoherty406 Back in Black

Well as I mentioned before heres a few different mods, I was on the look out for a suitable set of skirts to modify to fit the 406. I settled for SRI vectra B skirts as they only needed a small extension and I thought they follow the similer curves ans suit the styling. Still a bit of a learning cur...

Re: ddoherty406 Back in Black

Cheers lads. I was thinking the very same about the chrome strip but the breakers wont let me take them off without buying the entire bumper or door. Theres already a few different mods done instead but im still on the lookout for chrome bumpstrips, just a matter of collecting them one at a time off...
