buy a 407?
Hi folks, I am finally getting to the stage where I have to give up on my 406, still not getting any power low revs. After two years of prodding and misdiagnosis by Spanish Peugeot "experts" the time has come to cut losses and upgrade. I have just had major spinal surgery and have been told in no un...

Re: STOP light flahing intermittent
Thanks for the replies. I have looked through the link provided and will get wife to pull front end to bits tomorrow before the sun comes up and check the fan electronics. Its still a touch warm here (35 degrees) for working under bonnet. Will keep you informed of what I find. Thanks again.

Re: STOP light flahing intermittent
Thanks for the quick reply. It is difficult to say as I don't sit on revs in lower gears and have only noticed it coming on while cruising just over 70mph. Will get the wife (I am out of commission temporarily due to back surgery) to run it at similar revs in fourth to see what happens.

STOP light flahing intermittent
Hi folks, I have a 1998, yes 1998 2.0 HDI which occasionally develops a fault causing the STOP light to flash but only at speeds above 70mph (I live in Spain so at 120 kph the light will flash). It stays on until I drop below 70mph then disappears. I have checked all liquid levels and all seems to b...

judder when braking
Hi folks, back on the road after having a large part of my backbone welded up (due to old age and misuse). I have climbed back into the cockpit for the first time in 6 months to find a wobbly judder through the steering wheel when braking. First thoughts are bushes worn but would like advice before ...

Re: New battery time?
Another old favourite (which caught me out) is poor earthing on the engine. Check the earth strap connection on the starter motor for corrosion. Yes, even here in sunny Spain we have this kind of fun. Good luck, Andrew

Re: What diagnostic tools
Wow, what a day, been busy looking at diagnostic software for my 1998 2.0 HDI and yes I have got the year right. I am using elm 327 interface version 1.3 with a variety of software. Firstly PCM scan (trial version) It hooked up to the obd no problem at all.It was limited due to trial version but I a...

Re: What diagnostic tools
Hi folks, my car was indeed registered in December 1998 (S reg) and it has had a 2.0 litre HDI engine from new. As such I take it that I will need the Peugeot planet software and interface to interrogate it? Thanks for the reply. Andrew

What diagnostic tools
Hi everyone, I have a 1998 S reg. 406 hdi which, thanks to a not so competant Spanish mechanic, is very sick. I have looked long and hard to find out whether my particular model can be interfaced with obd2 compliant hardware (elm 327 and the like) or whether I need peugeot planet software and its cr...

Re: heater blower motor
Famous for connections near the blower burning out. It´s above the passenger footwell, accessed by removing the cloth cover. Easily got at if you can lie on your back with your head under the glovebox, arching your back over the sill while trying to keep your balance as you use both hands to gain acc...

Re: 406 HDi timing belt change caused dropped valve?
Thanks Jasper5 for the advice. I will have a look tomorrow and follow what you have said (unless someone comes up with other words of wisdom). It really has been a challenge to keep the car going all this time. Hopefully if I get the timing spot on I may have less difficulty with the wastegate probl...

Re: 406 HDi timing belt change caused dropped valve?
Don´t know where to start with my tale of woe. I live in a small community in rural Spain, took my 406 HDI 110 to a reccommended local mechanic (assured he was Peugeot trained) for timing belt change. Engine sounded ok-ish when i got it back, a little tappety but not being well versed with the engin...
