Re: More performance from Sri Turbo
I'm getting another Activa tomorrow which will see the following mods. Boost to 12psi on MBC Air-con and rad removed, massive intercooler to be fitted replacing the stock. Stock is OK at standard boost though. Generally all intercoolers sit in front of the radiator, once your moving air goes through...

Re: More performance from Sri Turbo
whats the average bhp increase when running 12psi boost from standard? 170bhp from the standard 150bhp? Yes i would say that would be about right, the best thing about getting rid of the original boost control valve is the increase in torque, specifically mid range which does make it quicker point ...

Re: respraying bumper
Where can you get a bumper painted for £80? And 1200 is too smooth for paint to adhere to correctly, 800 (wet and dry) is ideal for most colours, silvers may need to go to 1000. Most bodyshops use dry sanding and P500 is a typical final sanding stage before paint.

Re: Spark Plugs for an SRI Turbo ?
Its a simple engine, with no fancy combustion chambers so its really pointless spending £40-50 quid on plugs. I have standard electrode NGK's in mine, less than a tenner and tried and tested. I've used them in all my cars over the years and gapped correctly they are spot on, you cannot go wrong.

Re: Petrol Turbo diagnostics
OK so I drilled a hole in my dad's car for the boost gauge which I blu-tac'd to the dashboard, got it off the axle stands, put it on the road and  it ran at up to 1psi vacuum, exactly the same as in the garage. What speed did you get up to then, or did you just leave it on the drive and revs...

Re: Petrol Turbo diagnostics
Your saying your getting no boost at all, what gear did you test in? Neutral - it's on axle stands in my garage. The ECU has no idea what gear it's in unless the wheels are turning, and then it takes a few seconds to work it out from the speed sensor in the diff. Given how you can be on boost from ...

Re: Petrol Turbo diagnostics
Yeah so I blew £25 on a boost gauge and it told me pretty much the same as the MAP sensor did - under 1psi vacuum on revs, even with the valve bypassed. Going to have a play tomorrow and see what the wastegate's like. I just mopped the garage floor and it ain't dry, so I don't fancy doing any jacki...

Re: Petrol Turbo diagnostics
The wastegate cannot easily get jammed open in my experience. This would suggest that the actuator has seized. More often than not, its because the spring inside goes weak. The actuator has a spring and diaphragm inside, which has a pre-set tension against the wastegate lever, it is always shut unti...

Re: Petrol Turbo diagnostics
Fairly easy one this. If the actuator has lost most of its pre-load (and there isnt much as standard) then the wastegate could be open slightly, enough for boost to build very very slowly. Get a boost gauge on, and disconnect the hoses to the boost control solenoid, bypassing it but keeping the mult...

XU10J2TE (RGX) Turbo/Activa/406/605 Engine
I purchased this engine last weekend from another forum member. (FCF) I really needed the clutch and turbo from this engine rather than the complete unit but could not purchase it split. I am having the turbocharger and clutch from the unit, the rest is now up for grabs. A turbo will be available fr...

Re: SRI Turbo Unit
For anyone interested, the engine i picked up has a two piece turbo and manifold. I'm not sure where the confusion came from, but its now looking unlikely that such a combined design existed (i was told different!) Anyway, the turbocharger which is mint, is going to be the basis for some mods, basic...
