Re: steering rack loose?
Apologies for the zombie thread resurrection... can anyone let me know the part number for these bolts? I have a 1997 D8 2.1td Exec and one of them has just fallen out
I need to source parts 2, 3, 4, and 5 from the picture.
Thanks

Re: Argh, ABS fault
If the sensor rings are covered in enough muck the sensor itself might not be able to see the gaps in it, and will therefore not create a signal which the ABS ECU will flag as a fault. It's definitely worth giving them a clean.

Re: Duel Mass Flywheel
Welcome btw :) Thank you :cheesy: Worry not my friend, the D9 HDi early versions like mine and yours are at the pinnacle of engineering :) my DMF crapped out 2 years ago and still provides sterling service (with my excellent clutch action). My theory is that fuel pumps ONLY go wrong if they've had ...

Re: Duel Mass Flywheel
Ah, so you're in more-or-less the same boat as me. The 2.1 has been a good car, a few stupid faults of course, but nothing too expensive, so I decided to use up my last bit of savings to buy the latest 406 I could find and be able to drive a car I know all about into the next decade. Then I come he...

Re: Duel Mass Flywheel
Anyway, you have a D8, or am I missing something? I now have both - we've got a '97 2.1 tdi Executive which is much loved and still a joy to drive, and last week I picked up a very tidy '99 2.0 HDi 110, which is a D9 of course. I would have gone for another D8 2.1, but in these straightened times I...

Re: Duel Mass Flywheel
I did think it was the DMF letting its presence known but then I had the compressions checked :( Lordy, tell me more... I drove 240 miles in the 'new' car on Saturday. It was excellent, really steady at 90mph on the motorway and the fuel gauge has hardly moved. If it stays like this for any reasona...

Re: Duel Mass Flywheel
Well that sounds like good news. My recent purchase has an issue that I can't find on this board: at about 1600, and then 1800rpm there is a bit of vibration as you accelerate. It isn't paticularly loud although you can hear and feel it, but there is no clutch slip or judder, and the car seems to mo...

Re: Duel Mass Flywheel
I have said before that the whole car from mechanical to electrical is a throwaway after a finite time - 8 years 100,000 miles seems to be when everything starts to go - but what a great car when it's going well. OUCH!!! :( Sorry to drag up an old thread (I was searching for DMF) but is it really T...

Re: Retro-fitting seven seats...?
Cheers - no, it's not that one, which is indeed a bit on the pricey side. No the ones I'm looking at don't come with belts.

Retro-fitting seven seats...?
...Well, not all seven seats, but the additional two to turn my old Exec into a seven seater. There are some on Fleabay - anyone know if I can fit these in the boot of my '97 car? They are the proper ones out of a 'Family' model, so I suppose the obvious question (apart from will this work?) is how ...

Re: loosing water? 2.1td
Check the water pump: I was speaking to my mechanic friend last week, who is changing my cam belt and pump as I write, and apparently this is a very common cause of lost coolant. By all accounts if it's nipped in the bud the motor is good for 200k +. Mine's on 160k and still going strong
