They're not coded, the ecu is coded to the emobaliser but the pump is not coded to the ECU. It's not that hard a job to do, you don't even need to remove the cambelt. not been on for a good while but I've recently replaced the wifes old 2.1 for an HDI 90 (1999) and found this thread while looking for something else,
anyway, are there any updates on this mod ?
Does it have any drawbacks ?

The 2.1 can sometimes get away with a cambelt snapping, It will genrally just snap the rockers and leave the cam in one pice.
whip the cam cover off and have a look, just remember if the valves have gone it's an engine out job to get the head off.
