Thanks Dogslife- my first ever visit to servicebox reveals its an AL4 gearbox. I guess the lock thing doesn't work!
I do like servicebox- seems a very useful tool!
Cheers
Graham

Hi folks once again i return to the fount of all 406 knowledge- or summit like that anyway! According to the good ol' Haynes manual, my car has the 4HP20 auto box as it doesn't have the park lock facility. So far so good except i cant find the auto trans level dipstick that allegedly goes with this ...

Re: Stereo too loud!!!
Hmmm thats not a bad idea. i wonder what resistance i'd need to get the desired result. Anyone got any idea? You could take one of those mobile kit M-F iso adapters and wire a few heat-shrink covered resistors in-line

Re: Stereo too loud!!!
If you have the JBL system you should have a cd changer in the boot (or the cables to put one in if someone has removed it) so why do you want a cd head? Oh i have a changer in the boot- its just much more convenient for changing music if its a cd head unit too. If i have a disc i want to listen to...

I really dont want to have to mess about with wiring if there is an easy solution out there somewhere. The cassette head unit that came out played at the correct volume but ...

Stereo too loud!!!
Hi folks I've just fitted a clarion cd player out an 02 406 instead of my tape player but now the radio and cd are all way too loud. I think this may be connected to the upgraded amp fitted in my exec with the head unit coming from a non upgraded amp car. Does anyone know how to quieten it down a bi...

Re: Coming back to the fold!
Thanks lads. The Octy's not been a bad car but the ride is very hard and its a bit noisy despite the turbo quieting down the exhaust noise. I'm so looking forward to sloughing about the place in comfort again :-)
