Ok,
Then I guess fingers crossed that it is just the gasket and no skimming required? Car is only worth about £800.00, is it
worth having fixed?
Regards,
Steve

Re: Head gasket gone?
Ok Steve, Well, undoing it earlier today, got the usual hissing, like a pressure cooker, that mean anything? Also noticed that the only way I could drain the system was to take one of the pipes that goes from the radiator to the thermostat off (drain plug on rad = no water came out), tonnes of rusty...

Re: Head gasket gone?
Hi Steve,
The leak is quite a lot as I've just had to put in another 1.5ltrs and that's within about 5 hours of last filling it.
How do I check if it pressurises the cooling system? Is this a matter of undoing the coolant cap?
Many thanks,
Steve

Head gasket gone?
Hi, I've got loss of coolant, and white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I checked the dip stick and that seems fine, doesn't appear to have any milky deposits, just looks like oil. Car juddering in neutral which I guess is possibly because coolant is getting into the oil? Any advice is appreciated,...

Re: Knocking from under bonnet...
Hi, The mount on the drivers side, the rubber bush that is in it is split, although, not much play and the noise I'm getting when going over pot holes, bumpy roads does sound at the bottom front of the car. There is no play in the steering, the drop links are ok, no play in them. How do I check the ...

Re: Knocking from under bonnet...
Thanks for that.
I' not too sure now that the knocking could be this now! Apparently the movement is normal. It sounds more like
at the front end of the car just under the engine, need to get it on a ramp and take a look. It just happens when the
car goes over bumps?!
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Knocking from under bonnet...
Thanks for that,
Those torx screws are very very tight, struggling to get them to budge, any tips on how to loosen them
Once the mount is loosened, without having the gearbox on top of the jack, would it just drop?!
Thanks,
Steve

Knocking from under bonnet...
Hi, Everytime my car ( Peugeot 406 1.8 ) goes over a bump, it sounds like it is going to fall to pieces. At first I thought drop links, but these seem fine, after inspection under the bonnet it appears the passenger side engine mounting is moving. If you push the car side to side, you can see it mov...

Re: Clock not storing and very dim cluster display
Hi,
I managed to find a bust 5amp fuse, but according to manual this is spare? Changed it anyway and now the clock keeps its 'memory' although the display is still
very dim ( can't see it very clearly )? Can't see any other bust fuses :-(
Thanks,
Steve

Re: What should the mpg be - 1.8 Rapier
406Iain - 600 miles a tank on 1.8 petrol? Around 16 gallons? That be around 37 mpg. I've done half a tank now and it shows I've done 200 miles, but...it was full up on £47.00 ( about 50 litres or 12ish gallons). So, I'm guessing 6 gallons used thus far, giving me around 33mpg ( combined ). I'll just...

Ok,
But why would the fuel gauge show a full tank?

Re: What should the mpg be - 1.8 Rapier
Hi, Okay, checked the plugs, they are fine, biscuit coloured. Now, going back to the other day, I put £30.00, this took the fuel needle to half-way ( tank was empty before this). I did about 15 miles and then put a further £17.50 in ( tank now full?? Clicked at the pump at least twice ), I've now do...
