I need to replace the BE4 gearbox in my friends 406. I have access to a ML5 gearbox and driveshafts.
Before finding out the hard way, will the ML5 fit in it's place? Has anyone tried it?
Experience is appreciated.

Re: 1.9td pig to start when warm
I speak from experience. 3 Peugeot Citroen "Specialists" couldn't find the problem over 2 years. All came back with comments like "it's getting on a bit", "needs a new fuel pump, I guarantee it 'mate' - 1000 pounds supplied and fitted 'mate' ", "it's more than the car's worth 'mate' " etc etc. At th...

1.9td pig to start when warm
For the past 2 years, my 406 1.9td has been really difficult to start when the engine is warm. Ironically when cold, it fires on the nose. It became really embarrassing in public spaces - everyone looking over at my car turning over and over. Eventually it would fire and puff out clouds of smoke. "d...

Re: Brake Replacements
I have just spent 2 full days replacing my rusty old 150,000miles rear D8 subframe with a complete better one from a scrap yard. Replaced all buses, joints, shocks etc and it has transformed the ride and handling. It now has discs and not drums. The old drum brake setup has a bias valve (levering fr...

HDi Rev Counter signal
I am using a HDi engine in a different vehicle. This vehicle has a petrol engine rev counter. I don't have access to an oscilliscope so can't determine what sort of signal a HDi rev counter requires. Does anyone know if the signal from the HDi ECU is suitable to drive a 4 cyl petrol car rev counter ...

Re: Bulb gone behind Headunit display?
I had this a month ago. As has been said, carefully lever the display out and you'll see the 2 bulbs from the top. Replace with the smaller/shorter type as the normal ones won't allow the unit to go flush back in. http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/images/T/t-16642-474.jpeg Word of warning is to be re...

Re: intelligent split charge possible?
I'd keep the second battery separate and just wire in a 12V solar charger from the rear parcel shelf.

Re: Auxillary to mp3 player connector
Through the help from this site: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/BV.aspx?ref=Internal#http://elektron.pol.lublin.pl/users/djlj24/studio24/kable/linein.htm I have managed to get my 1996 Exec to play MP3. These older D8 cars cannot use the Connects2 box. I had to chop the wires at the head unit end...

Re: MFD has gone dark (its not the bulbs!)
Check the continuity of the connections with a multimeter between the main circuit board and the small circuit board which holds the bulbs. i.e. the 1" long piece of 2 core wire on the left hand side of the MFD. You need to extract the inner unit from the black plastic shell to gain access. They are...

Re: Farenheit to Centigrade
You just need to pull out the yellow wire from the plug connector (pin 8 ). It will read in degrees C from now on.
Best of luck. Tom.

Re: Dashboard display wanted.
Panic over folks. Got the lamps working thanks to a broken soldered joint to the small bulbholder PCB. No longer require a MFD. Also, thanks to an old thread worked out how to get it to read in Centigrade and not Farenheit. You pull out the yellow wire (pin 8 ) from the plug and that's it!! Now read...

Dashboard display wanted.
Hello folks. Does anyone have a second hand display for the outside air temp/radio station/trip computer etc they would be willing to sell? It's for my '96 D8 Exec.
The lights no longer work in mine (I've checked the bulbs befor eyou ask!!!) and it's also stuck in degrees Fahrenheit!

Re: NEW 406 OWNER WITH LOTS OF QUESTIONS!
I had the same trouble with juddering brakes. I replaced my discs and the juddering was still there. Your brake calipers are sticking (not the pistons, the sliding pins under the little bellows). This causes the caliper to only push on one side of the disc which gives the warped feeling. You need to...
