It doesnt need to have a hole in it to change the sound, could just be the baffles have gone or a split down weld seam.

If the sound has become louder and more sporty then take it to kwickies for them to look at, but dont buy a new exhaust from them, their rubbish quality.

Don't be disheartend, the 406 is far far superiour machine then the 306, just remember those rattles and squeeks coming from EVERYWARE!, and in my old 306 a metalic scraping sound coming from the sunroof at every opertunity. I'm sure you'll get it fixed and never look back. As for the CD try burning...

27mpg in a 1.8 sucks in my opinion, even with it being an auto.

My D9 2l coupe does 13 road miles and 3 city miles each way to work every day, I don't drive slow but I'm no nutter either.

I get 36.7 mpg nearly every week with the aircon on.

Got it sorted yesterday, Changed the exhaust manifold for a scrappie one, cost me 50 bucks for the manifold and 272 to have it fitted including a clutch change. Couldn't see any visible damage to the old manifold, all the welds were intact and no visible cracks, but stuck on a new gasket and hey pre...

Had this leak on my old diesel ashtra'y', came from the rubber pipe, never cars use a steel pipe to fix this, in time they rust and you have the same problem but a more costly fix. The rubber pipe came of my ashtray on the moterway once, and over half a tank of diesel lubricated my engine bay ...

I have a 2L D9 coupe and she doesn't use a drop... ever but a few years ago I owned a 1.8 early saloon that used oil at a rate of knots :!: It would drink a litre every month or 2k miles, I never found out where or how it was disposing of the oil but I sold the car to my dad three years ago and he h...

My D9 coupe has side bags, I think they come from inside the seat. Theirs no check light on the dash to indicate the electrics are working just some stickers

Kinda hope i never find out where they come out of, or not!

You had this problem before the new radiator was fitted?

If so then what was the reason for the radiator? It could be a dead thermostate as 72degrees is far from two hot.

If it does turn out to be a 'crack' :? I will indeed get some shots of it and post them up so you can all see what to look for.

For what it's worth I had a 309 1.6 injection and that had a crack in the cast iron exhaust manifold which used to blow more after you raced the engine where the crack had been cleared out by the gas pressure. The symptoms where a distinct 'ticking' sound as small bursts of exhaust gas escaped unde...

The guy was convinced the noise was coming from the manifold. It couldn't be heard anyware else around the engine bay, but his concern was that it may be coming from within the exhaust valves or even combustion chamber itself. He was talking about replacing the manifold from pug (big bucks) and find...
