It doesnt need to have a hole in it to change the sound, could just be the baffles have gone or a split down weld seam.
If the sound has become louder and more sporty then take it to kwickies for them to look at, but dont buy a new exhaust from them, their rubbish quality.

Got it sorted yesterday, Changed the exhaust manifold for a scrappie one, cost me 50 bucks for the manifold and 272 to have it fitted including a clutch change. Couldn't see any visible damage to the old manifold, all the welds were intact and no visible cracks, but stuck on a new gasket and hey pre...

Had this leak on my old diesel ashtra'y', came from the rubber pipe, never cars use a steel pipe to fix this, in time they rust and you have the same problem but a more costly fix. The rubber pipe came of my ashtray on the moterway once, and over half a tank of diesel lubricated my engine bay ...

For what it's worth I had a 309 1.6 injection and that had a crack in the cast iron exhaust manifold which used to blow more after you raced the engine where the crack had been cleared out by the gas pressure. The symptoms where a distinct 'ticking' sound as small bursts of exhaust gas escaped unde...

The guy was convinced the noise was coming from the manifold. It couldn't be heard anyware else around the engine bay, but his concern was that it may be coming from within the exhaust valves or even combustion chamber itself. He was talking about replacing the manifold from pug (big bucks) and find...
