Periodic Metalic noise
My D8 2.0 GLX has a metilic sounding "clunk" which occurs intermitently. It seems to ocurr: * When starting the engine * Changing gear * Turning the corner You can "feel" the noise through the floor and it does seem to be occuring more often. As far as I can tell the noise comes from the drivers sid...

Re: 1998 406glx 2.0 petrol - oil leak?
Head gasket seems like the obvious candidate. Any ideas on how much I should be paying an independent Car Dr. for the job? Thanks

1998 406glx 2.0 petrol - oil leak?
I think my 406 is a a bit unwell. I replaced the idle valve/stepper motor in October last year, however the problem has returned - rev counter goes nuts as everytime you stop a juntion and the engine normally stalls after a 30 seconds. Granted that I fitted a cheapo after market motor but I think it...

406 D8 Respray
Hi All, It's approaching curnch time my 406 GLX. Do I sell it on now or do I keep it for a few more years a runabout. If I decide to keep it then I need to sort out a couple of body work issue, the most problematic of which is some flaking paint around the rear passenger door wheel arch. Chipsaway s...

Re: Replace 406 GLX Mk1/D8 ICE
A belated thanks for the replies. Not solved the problem as yet but thinking about buying another unit off flea bay or a scrappy; I had hoped the existing unit would hold a pin out inside the case so I could make an adapter cable, but not such luck

406 D8 Heater Control Panel Bulbs
Hi, Not posted for a while as other business has kept me away from a few jobs on the 406. However, I recently had to change the bulbs for the heater control as most had failed. I managed to get the control unit out but could only change the bulbs for the top row of controls. Sadly, the bottom row re...

406 2.0L petrol GLX 1998 R Plate Engine Idle Valve
Hi Anybody know the part number for a idle control valve/stepper motor for one of these. My mechanic is pretty convinced that my 406 needs a new one but isn't willing to buy a 3rd party one and thinks that the Main Stealer is over charging - £100+ plus the VAT. He says he will fit one if I can sourc...

Re: BPillar Black Decals
Hi, I appear to have a caused a bit of a stir with this one. :) My wife wasn't best pleased when I bought an 11 year old car to run about in - I have now convinced her this is a "classic" 90's motor that is a mini restoration project - which means the decals have to look like Ed on Wheeler Dealers h...

Replace 406 GLX Mk1/D8 ICE
Hi, Sorry if this has been talked about loads of times before..... Basically, the Phillips 6CD Changer in the boot has seen better days. Question 1 - does any body know if I can find a connector to connect an after market CD changer to the 12pin? Din (looks like an old fashioned 5 pin audio din conn...

Re: 406 D8 Odometer Bulb
Hi, Job Done - 509Ts did the job - 50p + "the dreaded" a pop from Autoparts. What I did discover was that the factory fit bulbs (mine is 98 and it looks like the bulbs are all factory fit) come out with bulbs in a white plastic holder. You can remove the bulb from these and fit a new one. I just fit...

Re: BPillar Black Decals
Hi,
I purchased some from the local Stealers, £3.43 a door. Now all I need to do is figure out how to get the old ones off. I am thinking a hair dryer and some gentle pulling, although the ones on the car have perished and become very britle in places. Is pulling the Window seals back easy?

406 D8 Odometer Bulb
Hi, I have an odometer that is a dull as ditchwater, which leads me to conclude the bulb has failed. Does any body know which type of bulb I need? (R Plate, GLX May 98) I am little relcutant to take the binacle out unless I have the right bulb to hand. The digital clock bulb was a pain as although H...

Re: BPillar Black Decals
Hi,
Thanks for the replies - been away on holiday hence the delay in feeding back. I will give the main stealers a try as I would prefer to keep the car as orginal as I can. If it turns out to be a "good runner" I may keep it longer than I had planned!

BPillar Black Decals
Hi Recently bought this car and it came with the BPillar Black decals on both front/rear doors split and peeling. They aren't too far gone, but they will be soon. Aside from this the car is great condition so I am wondering if I can get a set of said decals and fix them on - anybody know where I can...
