Re: BTCC 406 Car Question
I thought BTCC rules pre 1998 were that Turbo's were allowed and that at least 500 or more cars had to be produced and sold of the particular model fitted with the same engine??? Hence the old Sierra RS500 from the old BTCC days and the Goodwood Turbo Volvos in the same year. The XU10J4 engine was ...

Re: Heater Blower location? and fuse?
It's behind the glovebox - you can access and remove it from the passenger footwell, you just need to pull off the soundproofing which is held in by 3 studs. Chances are you'll see the big thick red wire going into the blower is burnt around the connector. You can either replace the blower or clean...

Re: Day out.
Was roasting up here yesterday. Shame about the wind though (but I gather it was like that everywhere). We have to drive down to Edinburgh to get to our nearest Motorway! :D Even then it's not a proper motorway, it's just a dual carriageway with a hard shoulder. Last year when i went to Leeds, i go...

Re: Oil pans
I use an old oil container with the side cut out of it. Then once you've put all your new oil into the car, you can pour the old oil into the new oils can
Remember though 5.5 litres is with a filter change, so you wont get a full 5.5 coming out of the sump.

This method works with my own 406, but refuses to work with my parents car, odd.

Re: 'Must do' things to the 406?
Lowering it has made a massive difference to the driving experience with the car feeling much more planted round the twisties, but I did replace the front droplinks and both front and rear anti-roll bar bushes at the same time. It also hasn't made the car much more harsh over the bumpy stuff (which...

Re: Day out.
What are these M's you speak of? Are they the big roads with 2 lanes (one each way) and without passing places and grass in the middle of the road like we have up here in some places?

Re: What Diesel?
I once chucked in some super duper diesel by mistake. It did seem a little better out on the open road and needed less extra throttle to keep speed up hills and what not but the main advantage i found was that my car started a tiny bit quicker and that it smoked a lot less when it was cold or under ...

Re: A rare beauty
Ooo, engine number talkie :) The early M3's were a 2.3 4-pot were they not? with balancer shafts? and a dog-leg 1st gear if I recall - a real snappy performer. I used to dream of owning a 318is - that came with a 16valve head, sports sussy and a few trim enhancements? but can't remember the bhp now...

Re: A rare beauty
E30 318is' are common as fish in the sea... Only unless if you are referring to the LHD only 320is which was a detuned S14 engine which was in the M3? Nah, it's the one with the M42 1.8 16v jobbie in it, with the hollow cams, fancy crank, light weight internals etc etc. They only made them for a ye...

Good to see the owner has kept it looking good  Last of the Mk1 Golfs was A reg, with the odd late registered mk1's at B reg (I'm a recovering Dub addict, lol) My mate has 4 Mk2's, a tidy silver 8v, a white 8v stock car, a red res...

Re: Day out.
I managed to get a 3 hour test drive in an 850 R when they came out (had to put a suit on and borrow my parents Scorpio, lol) and returned it with melted black circles where the tires used to be. They go, stop and corner really well for the size of them but evidently eat tires if you drive them like...
