Re: Lower ball joint

Recently done both my lower balljoints and it is indeed a bitch of a job. I would definitely recommend taking the hub off the car. Probably took about 20 minutes to remove the hub and mount in a vice although a novice to the job will take nearer 1-2 hours with Haynes as a guide. Once the hub was mou...

Exhaust 110 fitting 90?

I've got a goer of a HDI 90 estate with a shagged exhaust (bar back box) and a very good exhaust on a scrap HDI 110 estate (bar back box). Was hoping to take the good back box off my car and put it on the good exhaust from the 110 car, but the 110 exhaust seems to be three sections with a centre box...

Re: 406 HDI 90 Won't Start

Just realised I haven't really updrated how I got the car going again. The problem in this instance was a faulty lift pump. Got a second hand replacement for about £40 and after a very fiddly time fitting it the car is back to it's old self again.

Re: New Car (to me at least)

Well I've played around some more with the central locking and am still having no joy. Have taken two working door locks from the old car and changed over both doors, then alternated between sides in all the various combinations and am still not able to lock and unlock all the doors from the drivers...

Re: New Car (to me at least)

Dry ice works, just need some really, really thick gloves (girlfriend got dry ice free from work, it's used to transport some sciencey type stuff or other - no, I don't pay attention when she gets to the science bit). I've done it in a few stages and gradually brought out about 5 'car park' type den...

New Car (to me at least)

Well I finally gave up on the old 406 at 218,000 and some decidedly holey sills - stripping it down for parts for sale and to keep. Now moved on to a GLX (oooh, the luxury) but still a 90, although now with com2000 (oh dear). It has less than 140,000 miles on the clock (I've never owned a 406 with s...

Re: dash lights etc. out with the Red!

Bit late and its an old post but just thought I'd add my bit in case anyone is searching through. When the bulbs went in my mfd I replaced them with white leds, however they didn't look right and you could see three circles of light through the front of the display. I then changed them for white bul...

Re: What Temp Should a TD Get To?

Mine sits at about 88-90 degrees. Last year it wouldn't get above 75, like many others on here a new thermostat and a change of coolant and it's back where it should be. There's a guide on here about how to change the coolant and it's a doddle - any idiot should try it - I do a coolant change for wi...

Re: New Mounts

I get quite a large jolt when I switch the engine off - is it the engine mounts and if so which one is it likely to be? If it's something more sinister then I will not be pleased. I still haven't got the offside sill welded yet and the cars gone nowhere in about 4 weeks. ZZR is getting loads of use ...

Rusty Sills

Well it seems to have come at me out of nowhere but the car has just failed on seat belt anchor points being excessively corroded. Admittedly that might be a rather over-blown statement from a rather over zealous MOT examiner but there is definitely a problem nonetheless. Seriously, the o/s sill is ...

MK2 Estate Parts Wanted

Okay guys, after quite a few parts. I'm located in Coventry so ideally would like to collect from West Midlands. I need the following parts for a mk2 406 estate: 1. O/s Driver Side Headlamp 2. O/s wheelarch liner (specifically the second piece back from the front of the car, the piece in front of th...

Re: Trailer light & 12V socket - suggestions?

I have a bleeper on my towbar wiring, I did the wiring myself. However, I drive for a living and my 6 wheeler has a light on the dash for when I'm towing a trailer (with a trailer board). I prefer this system to the noisey bleeper and to be honest the bleeper is such a cheap piece of rubbish it does...

Trailer light & 12V socket - suggestions?

I'm planning on installing a flashing light to tell me the trailer indicators are working and also a second 12v socket in the boot - anybody got any ideas of what I need to buy and how I would go about installing it. Obviously I don't want to start causing myself electrical gremlins - it's French af...

Re: adjusting 406 wipers

Old thread but thought I'd better have my pence worth. I tried the flat blades and they were rubbish, worked fine at slow speeds and looked good but soon lifted at higher speeds and as they aged. Bloody things are just too light - cleaned the screen well when they were first fitted but all new wiper...

Re: Changing 406 110Hdi fuel tank pump

Pump ring is only a problem to do up if you haven't seated the ring properly before tightening it. You also need to make sure the rubber gasket hasn't slipped off from around the lip of the tank and under the flat part of the pump. A tank spanner makes the job easier but provided you have the ring s...
