I finally got round to fixing it today and it was a the ECU earth wire. I cut out the in-line connector and soldered on a new tag. I also put on a new auxillary belt as the cheapo one I fitted 6 months ago was badly cracked, so went with a Dayco belt from GSF. Thanks again for the advice.

I'm away all week so will run through it at the weekend. I'll report on what I find.
