1999 1.8 Rapier value...?
Hi all I thought that this section was the best place to ask this question. I have a 1999 (V plate) 1.8 Rapier petrol 406 saloon that I want to sell. Body work is average, to slightly below with one or two car park knocks/scrapes. Mileage is 185,000. New tyres on front, but will need a rear exhaust ...

Re: '99 1.8 16v engine hesitating (again)
Hi, here you go. Basically it's under the inlet manifold, just to the right. You'll note that I popped a 10mm sleeve of pvc pipe over the sharp(ish) section of engine that caused the wires to rub and short out. http://www.paulphilpot.com/images/Peugeot-406-loom-shorting.jpg Good luck with it - I kno...

Re: Engine "Hesitation"
When I was trying to track down my first hesitation issue (cause by a shorting sensor wire) when I ran the car with the lambda probe temporarily disconnected the problem went away. This wasn't due to a faulty lambda probe as the problem returned when I fitted a replacement - but I believe that the E...

Re: Engine "Hesitation"
Ah, the engine hesitation issues - I've had two bouts of this on my '99 1.8 petrol. The first was a chaffed wire sparking on the engine - the wire went to one of the sensors on the throttle body housing. After this was fixed, a few months later it started hesitating again. I replaced the stepper mot...

Re: Fix or scrap??
Sparky - I was just about to suggest the coolant temperature sensor - mine 1.8 has been playing up again, and this time I think its the CTS. Keys84 - if you still have the car try unplugging the CTS (the one of the three with the green connector). The first idle may be a bit rough, but once the ECU ...

'99 1.8 16V High/rough idle, and hesitation.
Hi all I'm having another hesitation problem with my 1999 1.8 16v 406. Here are the symptoms: 1) Rough high idling: it idles between 1100 and 1300 whereas before it was a steady 950 2) Sudden quick hesitation (enough to jerk the car forward), cured by giving more fuel. This began after I changed the...

Re: 406 woes
Hi - while mine is a D9 1.8 16v, I've had one hell of a time with the sensor electrics on my car. My problems were the reverse of yours and 2100 (ish) would start the hesitation. That problem turned out to be a worn our sensor wire – part of the loom under the inlet manifold - it was rubbing on part...

Re: '99 1.8 16v engine hesitating (again)
Hi, it was fuse 27 that was being blown (on occasion, and got worse) which protects a number of components including the ECU. Here's how my problem was: When I disconnected the Lambda probe it essentially stopped the ECU from looking for sensor data and therefore stopped sending current down the bro...

Re: '99 1.8 16v engine hesitating (again)
Hi abonet I solved mine by tracing back along the wiring loom of the sensors and found that a design fault had led to some sensor wires rubbing on the engine block and causing them to short. This is what I wrote here: http://www.406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11976#p105815 OK, so every time I post ...

Re: A new conundrum!!
What about trying The Parts Gateway (http://www.partsgateway.co.uk) - they put a second hand parts request to a number of scrappies. Whenever I've had parts from their companies they have all been in good condition.

Re: Exhaust and Tappets
On the exhaust, to get you through why not try £6 on high temperature instant gasket RTV silicone - it's stickier than standard exhaust repair putty that normally falls off.

Re: Coolant: cylinder block drain point?
Thanks for that kevtherev. When you refilled after draining, did you need to create the 'header' with a bottle or was the tank high enough to avoid bad airlocks...?

Re: Coolant: cylinder block drain point?
Oh, OK then. So I'll assume at this point that the cylinder block will drain itself after I flush it then.
