Re: Uneven rear tyre wear

Bet you a cup of tea it's a buckled wheel. Just replaced a wheel on Stepson's Corsa, when you spun the offending wheel with it jacked up there was about an inch of runout (is that the word?). Goodness knows what he's hit, no visible damage to rim or tyre. He maintains he got that wheel from the scra...

Re: alloy wheel question

I'm with you sidb, must be growin old, but I don't like these ultra-low profile tyres either.. I mean, look at Formula 1, their tyres must be at least 65-profile :) Was running my Jag X-type 2.2diesel ( 8) )on the standard 225/40 x 18 wheels it came on, but within a year had cracked 2 wheels ...

Re: 406hdi(90) starting problems

Thanks jamjar I think I'll try swapping that valve with the Citroen's tomorrow, see them on ebay so presume they do die eventually, read somewhere about cleaning its internals? If I pull the electrical plug off the regulator with the engine running it stops immediately, however disconnecting the sen...

406hdi(90) starting problems

Having pulled out most of my remaining hair, and spent hours studying threads on this (excellent!) site, I'm wondering if any of you guys can suggest what I should try next.. The car stopped dead one night in the middle of nowhere, luckily I had a torch and some tools with me, and found that the in-...

Re: Starter Motor?

I'd say you're on the right lines, after starting your engine any bad electrical connections will be hot, and they seem to have higher resistance then.. Compression probably higher when engine is warm, as pistons/rings expand and close up gaps, so starter has to work harder. My '56 Fordson Major doe...

Re: 406hdi(90) losing power

Quick update.. May be tempting fate to say it but I seem to have sorted my car, with the help of the wise and intelligent people in the 406oc  Looks like it was the EGR, pulled the little pipe off the diaphragm-looking-bitty and stuck it on a bolt conveniently sticking out of the bulkhead, and...

Re: SNAPPED WHEEL BOLT....HELP PLEASE.

You don't even need to weld on a bolt or nut, just gradually build up a lump of weld on the end of the broken stud (inside or outside of hub, whichever's easiest), when it gets to about the size of a pea you can grip/turn it with mole grips.. I find you're less likely to weld everything solid.. And ...

Re: 406 HDI 90 Won't Start

What what what? No need for winter tyres on the back, ideally get a couple spare rims from scrappy, fit winter tyres on them, then pop them on (the front) when heavy snow forecast :D , and take em off again after.. That way you can have drive tyres with nice deep tread when you need em, and not be h...

Re: 406hdi(90) losing power

Hmm thanks for your help you guys, given me food for thought! Don't think it's drawing air as there's no coughing, it just dies, until you either lift off the throttle or floor it. Gonna investigate tomorro, don't know much about EGR wotsit.. yet.. Can't see it managing to pull itself up onto ramps ...

406hdi(90) losing power

Hello.. Although my first Pug was a 504 pickup, about 25yrs ago, I've only just discovered this forum, so much more informative than a Haynes manual! My problem is this.. From time to time my '99 406hdi(90) loses power completely, however unlike any of the other threads I can find on here the car do...
