Re: starting my 406 hdi - how to in the cold??

My experience was that my car would start much more easily 1st thing if you put your foot down on the accellerator whilst trying to start it.
Try this.
Also my car would get very upset if you didn't let it warm up properly (10 mins or so) before turning it off and restarting again.

Re: 2002 406 HDi GTX Auto Estate - for sale until 5/12/2010

The offer I have (and have provisionally accepted) is £1400 trade in, I'm not trying to be greedy just offering the car if someone wants it. If I don't trade it in then I have a 40 mile trip to do on public transport to get my new vehicle (yuck!) and have to take time out to deal with the enquiries,...

406 Hdi 110 - is it 8V or 16V

Just wondered about this. I have decided to PX my car for a 2001 Fiat Scudo van (more practical for my electric bike business) which is a 2.0 JTD 8V. I believe this is the same as the HDi in my 406, but I'm wondering what the differences might be including the 8v/16v question. Is there any advantage...

Re: OUTSIDE TEMP

Anyone got the part number for this so I can order a temp sensor from Pug? Mine thinks the temperature is -6 or -7. A little pessimistic!

Thanks

Re: HDi Cold starting rough...

i didnt want to be the controversial one who would say that but yes i agree they are awful Why are VW TDis awful? I also have a VW Passat estate TDi (1998) and it's incredibly strong, reliable at nearly 200k miles and does 55 mpg without much trying. The suspension on the Passat isn't great but apa...

Re: Glowplug testing info needed please

Latest with my cold start problem is that I've put some injector cleaner in (twice the recommended dose) and I now find that it is starting a little faster. One thing I have noticed (or I think I have noticed) is that it starts faster if you keep your foot down on the accelerator when turning the ig...

Re: Glowplug testing info needed please

No offence Jasper but I was going to reply, saying I hope he's wrong as an ECU replacment would be undoubtedly expensive! I hoped someone would step in with a second opinion :cheesy: OK so I might have a crack at checking the relay.. any tips or do I just put 12V on it and listen for a click?

Re: Glowplug testing info needed please

2.2V is with the glowplugs disconnected, that's measuring on the plug that goes onto the glowplug.
Ignition on, engine not running, that's the voltage.
It should be 12V, right?

Glowplug testing info needed please

Hi chaps, My car struggles to start in the cold mornings, but is always fine when warmed up. I thought I'd check the glowplugs with the multimeter. The supply to each plug when the ignition is on is about 2.2V. This sounds too low, I thought it would be 12V. Any ideas? The resistance on each of them...

Re: Cruise control

Yep that's when I'll know I've made it - when I can test my 406's cruise control on my private crunchy drive!
Mind you the 406 will probably be a rusty relic in the history books by then...
