Re: clutch 2.1 not hdi
The rubber collars that join the inlet manifold were weeping on my 2.1, I took them off and put some zip ties around them, top and bottom, just tight enough so that they required a small amount off force to put them back on. Problem solved, no more weeping

Re: Overheating, maybe water pump?
It's entirely possible that due to the lack of anti-freeze in the cooling system the water froze, and when you started the car the fins on the water pump either broke off or have detatched from it's shaft altogether, thus not circulating the coolant, or lack of. I would'nt drive it at all at the mom...

Re: rough running,no power
Funny story. My partner's brother had his mk3 Golf washed at one of those £5 hand car wash places, but he also wanted them to jetwash the engine, the guy was very reluctant to do this as he was aware of the risks involved with doing this. Anyway, the partner's brother insisted and the deed was done....

Re: Heated seats
I have heated seats in my executive, which up until Friday never worked since I've owned the car. Lights came on but no heat. The passenger seat had a broken wire which was very easy to fix as it was at the very start of the wiring that goes up into the back of the seat. The driver side was a bit di...

Re: Changing Fuel Filter D8 2.1 XUD
Bung half a bottle of redex/wynns/stp/ in the filter bowl before you put the filter in, always do that in my 2.1, helps keep thefuel system clean.

Re: Strange actions from my engine
2.1? I had the same thing with mine, it's either air ingress or the needlelift sensor on the 1st injector is sticking or going bad, may even be the wiring or the plug.

Re: diesel additive,
I believe it raises the combustion temperature in order to help burn off the old gunk inside the engine, this would obviously cause the running temp to be higher than normal.

Sounds like there may be a lack of gearbox oil.

Re: DRONING NOISE
I've changed 2 front bearings on my car now, a lot of heat and a big hammer has the job done in around an hour, but it really takes it out of you. I changed the nearside about 2 weeks ago because of a droning from 25mph upwards, only to find the noise was still there. I then discovered that the trac...

Re: Which drop links?
if theres no weight on them, they will feel tight no play, once theres weight on them if there fubard you will feel the play That's exactly how I found out mine was knackered. I jacked the car up and removed the wheel to check the links (also known as stabilizers by the way) but found no play, it w...

Re: Which drop links?
I changed mine last year before the MOT, I paid less than £10 for the pair from Ebay and it's just gone through another MOT without a problem. No knocks, bangs or anything.
