Re: rear roll bar clamps

I've got 2 rear arb clamps, I had them made by a local blacksmith. I'd add a picture but it says file too large.

They're a bit rough around the edges but they should do the job and will definitely outlive the car.

Re: rear roll bar clamps

Thanks Simon, that's a good idea. I'll see if I can get the good on off and use that one to make a pattern using fiberglass.

Re: rear roll bar clamps

Just a thought, I believe an anti roll bar if not fitted to the vehicle is not an mot fail, is that correct? If it's not fitted it can't be tested, the bar is cable tied in place for now but no only is sourcing clamps a pain just trying to get the rusted nut out is really difficult. I can now see a ...

Re: rear roll bar clamps

Ahhh, in the previous topic, rear anti roll bar bush sizes, there is a diagram showing the bearing clamps, it shows that both ends of the clamp are fastened by bolts. On mine one of the bolt holes has disappeared.
At least I have what's left as a pattern.

rear roll bar clamps

Hi all, my copy of Haynes manual is on a different laptop which I am currently fixing so could anybody on here help me please. My rear roll bar bush fell out on drivers side, I have replacement bushes but before I tear it apart could somebody tell me what the clamps are supposed to be like? The pass...

Re: Rear anti-roll bar bush sizes

As a following note, my rear roll bar bush disintegrated yesterday, luckily both support clamps are in very good condition so I only need the bushes. I measured the bar with a pair of vernier calipers and it is 22.15mm so I'm assuming I need 22mm bushes, is this correct? car is a 1999 2.0hdi V371EDG...

Re: Spring has sprung

All back together, it takes me a while now due to my disability getting worse. Took struts to local garage who removed springs from shockers then put the new ones on for me along with new nuts and washers in exchange for a couple of bags of doughnuts. Offered up the rebuilt struts and they both went...

Re: Lock nut for front damper

Thanks Doggy,
I measured the tpi and found pitch to be 1.5mm instead of the coarse 2mm thread.
Locknuts ordered, hopefully they won't take too long to get here.
Ive missed the old girl, driving my partners 1L Aygo at the moment, awful car.

Lock nut for front damper

The thread in the locknut that fits on the front suspension damper, the one that comes off when replacing the spring, has picked up. It was very tight coming off and wont go on by hand more than a couple of turns, other side is fine. Does anyone know what size it is? M14 is too coarse on the pitch, ...

Re: Spring has sprung

Strut came out very easily but i can't undo the nut on top of the damper. Very very tight. Wasnt this tight when i changed the top bearing. Might have to go to garage and let them have a go with a hammer gun. No need for the compressors just took out pinch bolt and 3 torqz bolts on top, drop link of...

Spring has sprung

Got back to the car from walking the dog, loaded up and started for home. Car pulled heavily to the left, no puncture so drove the 3 miles to home, it grounded lighthly on a speed hump. Once there I looked at N/S wheel, not much room to the arch, popped the wheel off to reveal a broken spring. Ho hu...

Re: New Clutch Required, looking for advice.

I had my clutch replaced at a cost of @£900 a few years back, worth it as rest of car is good and reliable.
A clutch clinic in Gloucester did it in around 6-7 hours, they said that they'd done quite a few and had the experience to get it done without dropping subframe.

Re: That COVID - How's it affected you?

All ok here, myself and partner triple jabbed. My 2 sons who share a flat are both double jabbed and both have have had covid twice, one of them installs high end security kit and travels all over uk often staying away for a week at a time. Mixing on sites with other trades is where he picked it up....

Re: Front strut bearing replacement

I didn't have the luxury of a lift when I did mine, just a jack. If you compress the spring with the strut still in place it comes out easily enough. Id do the drivers side first, no need to remove drive shaft and you'll get an idea of how to do it. Think i payed around a tenner for a bearing of eBa...

Re: Front strut bearing replacement

I replaced mine a couple of years ago, bought the bearing of eBay. IIRC it comes as 3 pieces and is a direct replacement for the old one. When I removed the old one it fell apart, it was rusty and seized. Easy enough to do, remove strut from car, compress the spring and replace. Do both sides, i man...
