I had a similar problem with mine, turned out to be the alternator pulley knackered, replaced it with a new one, job done, no more slack on aux belt, and much quieter on idle.

if the tensioner bounce disappears over about 1500rpm, it could be the pulley as the culprit.

As above really, found out that my 99 D9 hasn't got many toys to play with in the BSI, so looking out for a 01 or 02 Bsi Set, preferably out of an Exec, or maybe a GLX. Preferably one that had cruise fitted , although I know the're rare as a poultry dentist. If anyone knows of any pitfalls to this, ...
