Re: Very Lumpy Starting 406 HDI 2.0 2004
According to info from the internet if the lower engine mount goes it can affect the exhaust pipe. This may explain the (exhaust type) wheezing noises on hot starting?

Re: Very Lumpy Starting 406 HDI 2.0 2004
Thanks for that. Worn engine mount was something that occurred to me as well but was discounted by a mechanic although I do not know why. Is a worn mount consistent with a low mileage of only 52000 miles? The theory does sound plausible to me because it feels like something is loose or becoming loos...

Very Lumpy Starting 406 HDI 2.0 2004
I am struggling to describe this problem but here goes. When cold the engine starts OK although with a slight shake which manifests itself only when I first turn the key. Underway the car drives normally. However when the engine gets to normal temperature it's a different story - turning the key to ...

Cambelt Gremlin - Problem Solved
How a very simple issue can cause complete havoc. I had a my cam belt replaced on my 04 HDI 110 by a Peugeot specialist some 20 miles away. A couple of weeks later I experienced some unusual minor engine rev changes. The problem got worse to the point where the car was virtually impossible to start ...

FOR SALE (MARCH) 2004 406 2.0 HDI ESTATE SE
I have a 406 2004 2.0 hdi 110 SE which I will be selling in March 17. It has 45000 miles on the clock which can be verified by a dvla MOT check under reg LK04LPZ. I have serviced the car myself and looked after it. It had a new cam belt a few months ago and I have a full record of the service histor...

Re: 406 2.0 HDI 110 2004 NON-STARTER AND CUTS OUT
Further to the above I have removed the fuel pressure regulator and tested it for continuity. It is OK so I therefore presume that this particular component is not the problem. Regarding the jargon issue for the name of the component, an Ebay sales ad interestingly states the following: "Common Rail...

FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR
Does anyone know if the fuel pressure regulator attached to the hp pump on a 406 2.0 hdi (04) can be tested off the car? If so I will remove it and take it to be tested rather than drive the car to the garage as it could well stall en route. Alternatively I am thinking of simply replacing it with a ...

Re: 406 2.0 HDI 110 2004 NON-STARTER AND CUTS OUT
I shall probably need to get a scan carried out - with likely code being P0230 primary fuel circuit? In the meantime thanks to your advice. I now realise where the pump regulator is and how to remove it. But can someone please explain the difference between this particular component and the fuel pre...

Re: 406 2.0 HDI 110 2004 NON-STARTER AND CUTS OUT
Thanks for those comments. Yes I can hear the whirr of the pump when I turn the ignition on. Would you believe it, today the engine started readily and ticked over smoothly! Did not keep it going long enough though to see if it would cut out again. Curse these intermittent faults. Just wondering if ...

Re: 406 2.0 HDI 110 2004 NON-STARTER AND CUTS OUT
Thanks for that. Is the lift pump the sender fuel pump located in the fuel tank? Sounds plausible as the problem. Is access to it under the rear seat (my car is an estate)? Can you normally hear the pump from the driver's seat when you switch on the ignition or do you need an assistant to listen at ...

406 2.0 HDI 110 2004 NON-STARTER AND CUTS OUT
Car virtually impossible to start from cold. Battery and starter motor good and no smoke issues present. AA man number 1 said after testing them that new glow plugs needed which I duly fitted but sadly this made no difference. Later AA man no 2 did OBD diagnostic check and said fuel pressure OK. He ...

Cigarette Lighter Blew A Fuse
My tyre inflator stopped working via the cigarette lighter although nothing wrong with the inflator itself. Investigating the cause I recalled having dropped a coin into the lighter socket (with potential for short circuit). Sure enough when I checked the fuse box compartment under the steering whee...

Re: Gearbox Oil Change
Unfortunately I did not have the correct tool so we had to improvise. Maybe there is some slight variation in plug size with different years? Anyway whatever - on the plus side I won't need another oil change for the remainder of my ownership. Anyone else considering a gear box oil change needs to g...

Re: Gearbox Oil Change
I managed to do the job OK - eventually - but getting the right size square socket/wrench for the drain plug was the problem. Fortunately my neighbour has a bench mounted grinding machine and was able to square off something suitable. It turned out to be slightly more than the 8mm square (maybe near...
