Re: dvla

This has come up numerous times on Watchdog, with the DVLA telling people it's up to THEM to chase the DVLA if they hear nothing. Fair enough if you're taxing your car or something, but when you've got rid of your car it's not exactly at the forefront of your mind! Absolutely ridiculous. Same happen...

Re: Is it a PC upgrade or a new PC?

Shhh, don't tell anyone but you would probably be fine to install that on the new PC so long as the old one is no longer in use! MS back in the day used to get stroppy when you just added more RAM (I had to reactivate an OEM XP install twice!). They give a bit more leeway now. If it fails to activat...

Re: Do we need a computer sub-forum?

I voted yes, as this topic just got bumped :P I work with computers day in day out (both work and leisure) and have no problem sharing my experience. The other option could always be to create a thread called "The PC Problems / Q&A Thread" which could be used exclusively for computer issues! :) James.

Re: Bye Bye New Car :(

Ouch. That's an astronomical figure. Have you tried the trick with Admiral of adding an experienced lady driver (like your mum) as a named driver? That saved me nearly £200 on the 406! Also, have you tried the specialists, like Sky Insurance? I called them not expecting them to be competitive and th...

Even my old 1996 Nissan QX had one of them, was actually really useful last year:

Re: 2.1 TD cutting out after driving for about 5 mins

Mine was leaving little pools of vegetable oil under where it was parked, so I'd imagine it was a sizeable leak. It was also very tough to start. The main leak off pipe between the pump and injector 1 wasn't the usual braided type and I think the internal diameter was too big. Fitting a set of new l...

Good point, I didn't think of that! In that case it could well be air getting into the fuel system!

Re: 2.1 TD cutting out after driving for about 5 mins

Hi Ted, The 'K-light' as it's known (it's actually a transistor ) means the ECU has picked up a fault in there somewhere. With my car, I've done away with the electronic injection pump so the K light is pretty much useless to me, however I'm assuming you haven't done this, so if you know someone wit...

Re: Oil Temp Gauge

My 97P 2 litre GLX has definatley got got the temp gauage. When you turn the ignition on the oil level gauge lights up and the needle shows its full and I've checked the dip stick and its correct. After the 15 secs or when I start the car the oil level gauge goes out and it shows the temp instead, ...

Re: Oil Temp Gauge

I'm sure that the 2 litre doesn't have an oil temperature gauge; all that indicator does is swing to show you an approximate level and then shut off. Seems a waste of dash space to me! I think that every day I get in my car. (2.1 GLX has equally as wasteful level only gauge). Although that being sa...

Re: Just got a Section 59 for 'Overtaking'

I got pulled for overtaking near a junction a few years back, I was well within the speed limits (guy in front was doing 30 in a 60) and I could see the junction was perfectly clear, so was the road ahead (street view: http://g.co/maps/4vt6d ) Didn't stop the motorbike copper from pulling me over. I hear conflicting stories about this, but the general consensus I follow is that they're nearly as good, but many times cheaper!

Re: What's in your tool box?

what are the best brands to go for, i know to avoid stuff from argos or pound shops. On the other end of the scale is snap on stuff worth the price. "Halfords Professional" tools are brilliant, I bought a set of ratchet spanners from them a few years ago and they're still as new after a lot of use!...
