Re: WANTED: Spare Wheel Well

Thanks, I'll check those out! Panel is the same across all saloons and coupes, both D8 and D9, only estates are different.

WANTED: Spare Wheel Well

I know it's very quiet in here these days, but is anyone breaking a saloon or coupe, mk1 or mk2? I'm busy welding up my D8 saloon and can fabricate most things, but the spare wheel well is a more complicated shape. Would much rather have a sound one from a donor vehicle. Breakers yards don't seem in...

Re: Anyone owned a 405?

I picked up a GLX saloon with 49k on the clock 3 weeks ago for £450 :D Not a hint of rust anywhere, freezing air con and drives like a new car. My previous one had catastrophic rust, virtually no rear chassis legs left, significant rot up all 4 arches, rot around front sub frame mounts, rot on one s...

Re: How to remove rear lower arm bush?

For part 7, there is a special tool available from Sealey I think to do it in situ. I removed the hub assembly from the car and managed to cut through it with a hack saw and hammer it out, however I would recommend just handing the hub over to a garage who would remove and refit it with their press ...

Re: Towing Limit

My 406 has a gross train weight of 3027Kg and as far as I know they are all the same, my Mk2 Clio weighs 1070Kg. I've had my 406 on a weigh bridge and it weighs 1380Kg (kerb). All told it will be close with a double axle trailer.

Garage Clearout

I'm busy getting the garage in order for the summer projects, I have the following for sale! Peugeot 405 Exhaust System If anyone is still driving one of these bad boys, then they might have use for an exhaust. Removed from a '96 1.9 TD saloon, but I wouldn't be surprised if it fitted other models. ...

Don't seen why not, I don't recall having a problem at least.

Re: Rear end clunk - have done the usual suspects

Any play in the wheel at 12-6? Lower rose joint bushes can develop some play, but would result in play at the wheel. Might be better jacking the suspension arm up a bit to a neutral position before checking.

Re: Rustproofing/longevity underneath a car

Check out a product called Vactan. It's a rust convertor with an acrylic blended in. It chemically converts the rust but dries like plastic (the rust goes black once converted). I've been using it for years with excellent results. It needs very little in the way of surface preparation, just a quick ...

Rear Suspension Arm Bushes

I have 2 rear inner suspension arm bushes for sale, original Peugeot parts. Part number 5131.80. Purchased for a 1.9TD but I understand these fit most if not all 406's (check first, or send me your VIN and I'll check Servicebox). £16 for the pair delivered. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/d.mcnair/fors...

Re: Tumble dryers - Condensing or Vented?

I bought a "spares or repair" condenser off of ebay 3 years ago for £28, stuck some new thermostats in it and it's done me 3 years. Has developed another fault, will decide if it's worth while fixing (it is a Hotpoint, which appear to be made from tinfoil by a blind man). Never had trouble with thin...

Re: Best rubber for 406 saloon?

If 195/65/15, then there's not a whole lot of performance orientated stuff in this size. However, I fitted a set of Continental PremiumContact 5's which have been outstanding. £54 a corner from Camskill when I got them.
