Re: Starter Motor Replacement
Well my new motor turned up yesterday afternoon so I decided to crack on and fit it. All went well and the car came back to life when I reconnected the battery (thanks for the info GingerMagic). I turned the key and woaaaaaaaaa the engine cranked so much faster, and sounded like a new car too! Unbel...

Re: Starter Motor Replacement
Thanks for the reply; I'll check the thread out you suggest. With regards Allen keys and torx yes I have some good ones I have used on the old girl many times so should be fine tool-wise. The new motor should be here by the weekend so weather permitting it'll get fitted soon.

Re: Starter Motor Replacement
Hi there, The reason I ask about teeth numbers is that several online retailers quote the number of teeth as 10/11 rather than just a single number. I'm probably reading too much into it as Euro Car Parts comes up with three options that, although from different manufacturers, are all the same spec....

Starter Motor Replacement
Evening guys, My 406 HDi 90 is showing strong signs of a failing starter motor and I am intending to replace it. As I understand it there are different power rated starters available and I have read that it's likely mine is 1.4KW. Some folk recommend going for the 1.7KW variant to improve cranking s...

Re: Help identifying fuel filter
Sorry to appear dumb but can you explain what PP2K is? I assume its a device that plugs in the diagnostic port? Is it something worth buying ( assuming its not mega bucks)? I intend to run this car for a good while longer so the ability to diagnose future faults would be useful.......

Re: Help identifying fuel filter
Well I replaced the fuel filter today, no problems at all. Took the entire bowl off and cleaned it thoroughly prior to installing the new filter. Pumped the bulb with the feed to the pump off to fill the bowl, hooked up and she started. I then proceeded to change the engine oil and filter, air filte...

Re: 406 hdi 110 slow/underpowered
Add your location to your details and maybe someone local can help. When I got my first 90, I spent ages looking for the reason why it was slow - turns out its because the engine was too small for such a big car.. :cheesy: I've been wondering why mine is slow. Thanks for explaining why; it's been b...

Thanks for the warning; I will back her up on ramps before I start, just to be on the safe side as I can't see my neighbours helping me push the car up ramps!

Re: Help identifying fuel filter
That's great......thanks very much for getting back to me :D I had 25% of the price stated so it wasn't too bad. One more question (sorry  ) The quick release couplings onto the inlet/outlet......I assume I push the "buttons" in to release them? Thanks again for your invaluable input, you are ...

Re: Help identifying fuel filter
Thanks for your reply. What's been confusing me is that Euro car parts refer to the two element types as Bosch and Siemens. Since its not a Bosch filter housing then I have to assume the one they refer to as Siemens is what I want. I just don't want to pull it to bits to find I have the wrong filter...

Help identifying fuel filter
Hi guys, I'm about to treat my 2003 HDi 90 to a service and decided to include the fuel filter element in the job. However I am struggling to correctly identify whether I have a Bosch or Siemens filter housing. I've trawled the web for pictures and nothing seems to tie up as all the Siemens ones I'v...

Re: Lower Ball Joint Retaining Nut
Thanks very much for your kind offer but I sourced some through work. After checking the stud diameter with a vernieer caliper they were actually M14 x 1.5mm. Anyway I now have new front discs and reluctor rings (and ABS that works again :cheesy:) and it only cost me £75, so I am a happy bunny. Did ...

Re: Lower Ball Joint Retaining Nut
I will get some and hope they fit. If they don't the old ones will go back on. I have given both sides a preliminary dose of WD40 so it's soaking in over the week. Just ordered a pair of front discs too as I might as well do them at the same time. When I was in my twenties I used to love spannering ...

Re: Lower Ball Joint Retaining Nut
I had the same problem. The nut is an M12 x1.5 and its a fine pitch. If you have a look on ebay theres plenty of people of selling them or go to a nut and bolt shop. Excellent, thanks for the info. I was 50% sure it was M12 but am a lot happier now you have confirmed it. I will have a look on EBay ...
