Side lights come on when braking
Bit of a random one- my side lights come on when I brake, then turn off when I release the brake pedal. At the moment the third brake light is not working (fuse is fine, not got around to digging any further)- could it be Peugeots way of telling me there is a problem? or do I have a wiring gremlin w...

Re: Fuel level gage misbehaving
Well my fuel light came on despite there being around 14 litres in there, so I swung in and stuck in a tenner as a safety cushion, then as soon as I hit the ignition the needle shot up to half way and a claimed 300+ miles in the tank. I will keep an eye on it over the next few weeks and see what hap...

Re: Fuel level gage misbehaving
^ not really- the fuel pump was replaced approx 20k miles ago and has been spot on ever since, this is the first time it's done it completely randomly. My mechanic who installed it said it was all one unit so wouldn't be able to work on it- and need to try a whole new (used) unit- how can I now find...

Fuel level gage misbehaving
So my fuel level was going down slower than usual- but having just had a new bearing on one that was dragging, new handbrake pads put on and a new air filter didn't worry too much as there was always going to be some difference- however.... I then went to put in £20 when the distance showed 80 miles...

CD Player not ejecting
My standard issue CD player has decided to swallow a CD and won't spit it back out again. It refuses to play it at the moment, however I think this is down to a dirty lens not associated with this problem. When you press eject it makes a click-a click-a click-a noise which I found out is coming from...

Rear seat stuck down
Over the weekend I had to move some rather large items around and so lowered the rear seats in my 406 estate as I've done 000's of times before. However when putting everything back together the built in centre inertia seatbelt had managed to lock in place and therefore wouldn't give me enough slack...

Re: Trying to source internals of a key
You're exactly right- and since posting this I've worked out it's the micro switch in it's entirety that's gone missing- so I now have a plastic key pushing on plain old circuit board. Turns out I can get them from e-bay for £4 for 3 of them (only want one) so I'll pick one up from there. Cheers any...

Trying to source internals of a key
Excuse the randomness of this but... My unlock button fell out of my key which was fine I thought I'll ignore it for a few days and pick up a new one off e-bay when I get round to it, however in the interim the little metal clicker that sits on the circuit board has also fallen out. I therefore have...

Switching A/C off
I have my heating/ fans set up the same way most of the year round 20.5 C, fans off, incoming air directed at the windscreen with a/c off. (I don't know why I like it like that I just do and it works for me) However every time I start up the A/C comes on automatically, is there a way of stopping it ...

Re: Alberto`s pug nicknamed turtle:)
Would definitely either try your hand at some other ones or get someone else to try to drive yours- see if it's the car or your perception. My 90 bhp 2.0 hdi 406 will still spin off the line if I'm in a hurry at a sneaky junction or something and can still overtake just as well as my 1.8 petrol focus.

Re: Swarf in fuel system
I've had her stripped down today to check the lift pump and there isn't one- it's a single pump system! Damn! Gonna have to fork out a few hundred for the new inj pump and hope that clears it up. If not probably a new engine. Problem is it's nothing but scrap sitting there as it is so the money's go...

Re: Swarf in fuel system
I'll have a look at whether it's a Bosch or Siemens tonight- the mechanic was wittering on about Siemens and he also said he'd primed the fuel which recoated the HP filter in swarf so sounding like that one. I've never put diesel in no, but I've had the car for less than 2k miles so I can't guarante...

Re: Swarf in fuel system
The quote I put was copied from the invoice they gave me written by the mechanic, they're basically describing this problem http://www.peugeotcentral.co.uk/ftopic-9101.html and the customer service bloke said he see's it more with the early 307s but it's not unknown in the 406's. Now that I know the...

Re: Swarf in fuel system
Hi, It's 90 bhp one, not the 110, it's never had a problem starting- even when left alone for 2 weeks over Xmas it still went on the first go! It was in the garage because it came up with a antipollution fault on the way to work and a engine management warning light and went into limp mode. I had to...
