Re: MPG on 2002 406 estate mid 30s
Bryan, Mine is an 03 Hdi90 2.0 estate with Siemens injection. Computer normally says 36-39 in winter but consistantly under reads by 10%. I know this because I am sad and keep a spreadsheet of all my mileage, pump totals and computer readings. Real life average is 42mpg. I get a bit more in the summ...

Re: hdi 90 misfire lumpy idle
Deja vu I gave up hunting for a ghost fault and just drive round it, but it's a pig sometimes. Best result was a good hard blat to the alps & back in feb. This would imply that it's at least partly related to sooting up, I bought a can of EGR cleaner but havent got round to it. My hunch is there's a...

Join the 'Siemens smooth running fault' club.
What's it like at 1500 rpm? ie 30mph. Mine is fine at tickover so might be unrelated.
How can we measure injector voltage given that it will be pulsing?

Re: Engine oil grade Hdi90
Thanks Max, After a lot of trawling I'm not much the wiser: The petrol bit is: SL Meets 2001-2004 on requirements of Automotive manufacturers So fine for my 03 if were a petrol! The Diesel bit is less clear: CF OBSOLETE Introduced in 1994. For off-road, indirect-injected and other diesel engines inc...

Re: Engine oil grade Hdi90
Can I assume that numbers higher than A3-B3, Eg. A4-B4 have a higher grade of soot retention etc. and lower numbers(A2-B2) less so? The Ebay stuff (Item number: 0724719089) only states: Type: Car Care MPN: TMX620 Manufacturer: Tetrosyl Carplan Intended Use: Modification/ Enhancement Subtype: 10W40 O...

Before I order 20l motor oil off fleabay, which grade for my 2.0?
Common wisdom appears to be 10W40 semi synth.

Re: would i be right
Before you go and make a mountain out of a molehill, do you know when the cam belt was last done? If it were relatively recent, like less than 50K/2yrs, I would spend the money on drink and dirty women. The aux belt tensioners might be knackered but you can get a good idea with the belt off, if the ...

Re: 406s and floods - a warning
Years back I watched a 4WD convoy ford a river in NT Australia. The rich guys all had Toyotas Land cruisers with snorkels and had no trouble but the budget guy just had a 4WD Subaru estate road car, no snorkel. But what this fella lacked in wonga he made up for with cunning & skill, he wrapped&lashe...

Re: Siemens HDI remap
Rob, I made some casual enquiries and didn't get anywhere.
Do the 407's have our Siemens system?
Keep up the quest!
