Re: The countdown has begun...

Well, I certainly don't need 2 cars...

My insurance, tax and MOT ( all passed so far ) is around £400 per year, so for just over £1 per day I can haz a car for literally abusing, dump trips, trampolines on the roof - that sort of thing, while keeping the Volvo as a car for best.

364 days to go.

The countdown has begun...

Well, I've just put the dump trip bargain basement 406 for it's MOT - it passed again for the 5th year in a row but Sven the MOT guy has whispered in my ear that it won't pass next year due to rust on the rear subframe, arms, pretty much everywhere. I paid £150 for the car about 5 years ago and it's...

Re: Can you convert 406 with the analog climate control unit to Auto?

Yeah, the thought of climate control is tempting, and all my 406s to date had it, but it's a bit noisy, starts on its own accord and is more of a gimmick to me. Stick with the rotary dials, easier to use, less to go wrong even if it looks a little cheap in comparison. As Steve said, it's possible to...

Re: calling it a day

Pity, but I understand where you are coming from. Fortunately mine keeps scraping through MOTs but it'll be discarded if it fails next time as it's only a dump trip car ( albeit reliable and comfy ) Second hand cars seemed to have gone up in price so I'm not sure if a worthy replacement will be chea...

Re: need advice on wing and bonnet

Your car is I believe a phase 2 model ( 2000 - 2004 ) so any saloon/estate wing from this era will fit - fuel type is inconsequential :cheesy: A 406 coupe front wing is completely different and will not fit. It's sometimes difficult to tell on online sites however if the wing has an indicator hole h...

Re: P0400 Code

So it seems your EGR is jammed, however whether this is jammed open or closed is a different story.... I'm pretty certain the rest position for the EGR is closed, and the vacuum pump/solenoid keep it closed until decelerating when the solenoid stops the vacuum so the EGR pings open No vacuum supply,...

Re: P0400 Code

It's 1628HC if I remember correctly.

Both solenoid valves have the same part number and the both kinda flutter open and closed but the ECU determines how quick each one flutters depending on demand.

Re: P0400 Code

Thing is, a 110Hdi will light up the EML if you disconnect the solenoid - whereas the Hdi90 is more forgiving.. Just check the vacuum pipes for any splits, or just replace them with some from eBay or something - might not fix it but it's worth doing as a matter of course. You can also swap the conne...

Re: Low beam indicator blinking and turning off any other light

There is a common fault with the Comms unit - where the tiny metal ring inside the light stalk gets worn out.

If you still have one of your old Comms units you could give the repair a go

There are a few videos on YouTube if you search for Comms unit repair

I think you can also use the Customer Options menu to mark the auto lights as absent - it's been a few years since I've dabbled with it ....

Re: Low beam indicator blinking and turning off any other light

Have you disabled the auto lights using PP2000 too? I once enabled the DRL but it messed around with the lights, disabling auto lights fixed it. Using the button on the end of the lights stalk will turn on/off auto lights but occasionally the car would turn them back on again just to upset me so I d...

Try these videos.... MAF sensor cleaning https://youtu.be/fAQdQ3RJvGo?si=izwVXcp3tNYBWKxy The tiny wire inside is very fragile, so go easy with the spray cleaner Throttle sensor removal. https://youtu.be/4fYHo7voyx0?si=S_l07rH1Q8cLyy0s This is essentially just a metal spring/coil affair that gets gr...

Re: My 406 is driving me crazy, need some help

Some aftermarket sensors are a bit hit and miss, some are great whereas others are inferior. If you still have the old MAF then plug that back in - the EML might not go out straight away mind. You also mentioned the oscillating revs - there is a chance your throttle sensor needs a clean - it's easy ...

Re: high pressure fuel pipe leak

For the record - ignore the usual 'glow plug relay' fault as it seems most Hdis do this and it's nothing to worry about.
