Re: I can haz a new car too....!

I'm not expecting great economy to be honest, but the Coupe was only slightly more to insure, but also doing about 20mpg round town, less if I drove it as a V6 should be driven.....

Re: I can haz a new car too....!

It's a 940 - so the model before the whole V40, V70, V90, Mondeo stuff, the Volvo forum members have expressed there fondness for the later 9-- series. It's basically a bigger version of the 740 ( V70 in later guise ) although lots of parts are interchangeable. Local number plates to Bournemouth wer...

Re: I can haz a new car too....!

It has the 2.3 turbo engine - rear wheel drive - wcpgw..!

There are niggles to sort, like all cars that are over 20 years old, but the Volvo forum is okay for information, although harder to navigate than this excellent forum :cheesy:

I can haz a new car too....!

Here is my recent purchase - hopefully it'll last a good few years. https://i.ibb.co/61NfgFf/IMG-20210618-WA0004.jpg It's not a classic as such, but a 1998 model so kinda old ish. I very nearly bought a much older one but I don't really have the time/skills/patience to look after it - this one shoul...

Re: My 406 Break Blue China

Absolutely fantastic - well done. It's a very popular colour... Some of those modifications have been done before but not all on one car, it looks excellent. Did you retrofit the headlight washers too, I see the jets on the bumper.... The boot lighting looks good - there is a perfect space fo...

Re: Newbie!

Hi, welcome. Yours looks like a nice clean example - worth the wait? Like most members here, I've owned numerous 406s and while they were mostly cheap and cheerful means of motoring, they do have a habit of getting under your skin :cheesy: Have a look at the Knowledge Base here, it's on the home scr...

Re: Trouble with HDi additive system (DPF system)

Ah, okay :cheesy: I'm not sure about the Euro class on a 2002 , I would assume it's a Euro4 - even my 2013 DAF is only a Euro5. As a temporary fix, you can remove the DPF cannister from the car, then pressure wash the insides to clear out any potential blockages, then refit once dried out. Or, using...

Re: Trouble with HDi additive system (DPF system)

I'm sure there were a handful of 2.0Hdi with the DPF but I thought that was the very last ones off the production line... ( Didn't Sam have one of them..?) I would certainly just remove or bypass the DPF, you could fit an earlier non DPF exhaust section which should be readily available online etc. ...

Hi Matt. You've done alright there, worth every penny :cheesy: Long distance cruising is a breeze in one of these, and as fresh as a daisy when you get there..! There was a time when pretty much every 406 was worth £140 but times have changed. Last year I bought a 53 plate executive with a shady own...

Re: Rear nearside tyre wearing on outside only.

It's been discussed on here many times regarding the rear adjustment.

The 4 wheel alignment places will understand the workings of the eccentric bolt and how it plays it's part.

Re: Additive tank fell off

If your swirl is not holding vacuum, then you can just block the vac pipe that goes into it - this will stop it from leaking and reducing the vacuum needed for the rest of the system.... You can replace it at a later date if you want to, I think myself and Doggy ( plus many other members ) just kept...

Re: Timing belt replacement

To be fair, if it's causing you concern - just get it done. There is every chance the belt would last, but as DDD says prolonged times between starts, and stop start town driving will shorten the life of the belt. I can't remember what the garage costs would be, maybe around the £400 which is a lot ...

Re: Additive tank fell off

You can buy enough silicon pipe ( 3mm internal diameter ) on eBay for about £5 Your car will run fine with the DPF cannister emptied - you can get a remap at a later date from a member here or posting the ECU off to a specialist that'll do it. Apologies for not replying to your PM, it's been a busy ...
