Re: battery
I bought a Bosch battery for mine which was meant to fit according to the shop but when I tried to fit it, it wouldn't fit properly. Sorry I can't remember exactly why but it might have been related to the plastic cover. Fortunately I got my money back no problem and bought a brand I'd never heard o...

V6 MPG
Filled up my V6 auto with fuel this week. 3 weeks ago I had filled up with BP Ultimate (super) unleaded and the low fuel light finally came on after 465 miles. I drive smoothly but not slow like an old lady. The trip computer said 34.9 mpg and working out the mpg from the fuel figures (70 litre tank...

Re: Inaccurate fuel gauge?
The fuel gauge on mine has behaved well. The occasional glitch over the years but nothing on a regular basis as bad as described here.

I did this and the fault has gone away. Hope it has disappeared permanently. Thanks all for your responses.Welly wrote:The easiest thing to try is to work the handbrake lever up/down like an idiot for 30 seconds or so, this normally clears the fault for weeks on end.

Re: Badly behaved 406 D9 - Brake Fluid Warning...
My car is still playing up and the circumstances aren't straightforward. As the car is an auto I rarely use the handbrake - Park does the job. I only use the handbrake on a slope. On most occasions when on a slope , when I pull the handbrake the "Brake fluid level" warning is displayed when the hand...

Re: Badly behaved 406 D9 - Brake Fluid Warning...
My car is playing up with the same Brake Fluid Low warning so thanks for the information. Has anyone here actually had the error, replaced the handbrake microswitch and cured the problem ? How difficult a job is it ? I know these are french electrics but I fail to see how a handbrake microswitch can...

Re: Headlights on 02 reg. 406 Estate not working
Sorry to repeat the obvious point already made but are you absolutely sure you're checking the right bulb ? It seems odd that one dipped lamp failed and then the other soon after yet it's not the fault of the bulbs. On my car the dipped bulbs failed almost together twice (several years apart I shoul...

Re: Speedometer stops working then starts again!
Same problem on my 2000 year V6 auto although only very occasionally. No drop in power when it happens. Any suggestions gratefully received although I'll leave it as it is until the problem happens more often. Not sure if it's related but occasionally the clicking noise for the indicators stops work...

Re: Peugeot 406 Changing sidelamp Bulbs...How ?
An old thread but it was never answered so here goes for anyone else reading in the future. Mine is the facelift version - D9 - from 2000 which I presume is the same as the D8. The sidelamp is accessed from inside the same round "pod" as the main beam. Remove the cover at the back by pressing down o...

Re: Clone PP2000/Lexia-3 - Is It Worth It?
There's a set of threads about this subject on the 406 Coupe forum which is well worth reading. I bought one of these from a Chinese supplier for ~£60 including postage to work with a 2000 GTX model. The software was a pirated version which in the end proved too much trouble to get working so I obta...

Re: Droning noise
My rear tyres (Michelin Pilot Premacy) were very noisy at the end of their life. When I replaced them with Michelin Energy Savers the difference in noise was dramatic. The car is a lot quieter inside and the mpg has improved by 2 to 3 mpg as well. Would definitely recommend these Michelins which wer...

Re: [SOLVED] Tyre pressure for D9 V6 saloon
My V6 was ordered just before the new engine was announced and was delivered in April 2000 so that should give you a rough reference point for the engine changeover.

Re: are mpg computer accurate,im getting bad mpg
The trip computer on my petrol V6 is very accurate. MPG on a run is mid-30s which is very good for such a large engine with an autobox.

Re: Timing belt v6
Not sure about the difference between engines for the kits but getting the right water pump is a real minefield. Last time I had the belt done on mine the workshop had trouble getting a water pump that fitted properly. I recommend you read the article on the 406 Coupe forum where the V6 engine is co...

Re: Numbers of 406 V6 estates sold in UK
The nearest figures I can get are looking here but unfortunately they don't distinguish between the saloon and estate. Somewhere around 3000 V6 saloon and estate models seem to have been registered with around 25% of them being automatic.
