i already changed that switch to see if that was the problem.

I had this problem with my estate. It was caused by a single broken wire within the tailgate. Next to right hand hinge is a black corrugated rubber trunking. Lots of info on here about EGR removal or replacement. It seems the pro's to cleaning and keeping the EGR is that the engine warms up quicker and you don't need to remap the car. The con's are having dirty exhaust smoke and having to clean it again someday. Mine has been removed and I am very happy...
