Code-reader hopefully will arrive tomorrow. I'll see what codes are in there,
then clear, plug the maf back in and see what happens.

Re: HDI (110) - Low Rattle
A sound rather like 'pinking' in a petrol engine, more pronounced than the usual diesel rattle. From idle upwards. This afternoon, I disconnected the maf sensor. Then went to start the car. For a few moments I thought it wasn't going to start, then it did. ( I think/hope this may be the computer, in...

Re: HDI (110) - Low Rattle
Thanks for that.. Went outside this morning, ready to remove the maf sensor. Thought I'd try to start the car as is, just in case the non-starting was a bit of French humour. Turned the key..., and it started up fine. No sign of the EML light. I didn't take it any further. Must say, I'm a bit scared...

Re: HDI (110) - Low Rattle
Car is 2000 (W). Just before PP2000 came in, I think (?). Hope the code-reader/resetter does work, cos immediately after I posted.., I bought one on ebay. However......, this evening I went out to start the car, turned the key. Won't fire up at all. It turns over fine, just no sign of firing up. So ...

Re: HDI (110) - Low Rattle
Thanks for that. As the last time my local garage read, and cleared a code for me.., they charged £35.., looks like it's time for one of these.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261195885915?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 From what I've read on other posts here, this seems to do the b...

Re: HDI (110) - Low Rattle
This happened again yesterday. Started the car, engine suddenly seemed rattly, and the EML came on. Drove down the road to a shop for about a mile. Switched off. When I returned, and started up again, engine now OK , and after a half mile or so, the EML went out. Today, I started up, again return of...

Re: Badly behaved 406 D9 - Brake Fluid Warning...
First time I had this message, it was all... "OMG.., disaster..". Took the advice on here about giving the handbrake a good working up and down. That cleared it for a while. Now appears occasionally. Put it in for an MOT, crossed my fingers that the message woud not appear. All, OK. I think I'm star...

Re: Intel V AMD
Now I've always been Intel through and through and always refused to get AMD stuff, but the wife's laptop has given up and she needs one for work in a hurry, so am I being overly picky? Yes you are, imo. Get one that is a decent colour, with a keyboard that feels good to use, and a good screen. I h...

We wouldn't be talking here about the ABS coming on as you heave it down from 115mph on the local by-pass..?

Re: Indicator Light Flashing on Switch-On..
I bought a replacement stalk, arrived today. When I compared it closelywith what is in the car, there is no horn graphic. A press button, yes, but with 2 arrows. I'd always assumed that was the horn, but have never used it.., I press the steering wheel for the horn. Here are the pics.... 1st one is ...

Re: Tyres for all seasons. 2 summer + 2 winter (possibly)
I generally fit part-worns, £15 - £20 (max) fitted and balanced. If the dealer has them, I try to stick to the well known 'traditional' brands such as Uniroyal, Firestone, Michelin etc, also Hankook and Kumho. If there's a choice of a budget brand of 5 to 6mm tread, or a good brand with 4mm, I'll go...

Why does it expire in a months time?
Is that because they need the proof of no claims etc?
Can I still tax it with this?
FFS
They wanted the proof of NCB within 4 weeks
or the policy is no longer valid.

HDI (110) - Low Rattle
Had a slightly odd experience today..... I noticed a couple of months back that when starting from cold, then accelerating away, not fiercely, there seemed to be a rattle sound from the engine direction. Wasn't sure what it was, or might be the beginnings of the crankshaft pulley letting me know tha...
